davis94's Lightning Silver EJ9 Build

The car will definitely be going to kirkistown once its road worthy and running problem free , gonna used the standard shafts to get her going but going to uprate to Yonaka shafts once I gather the budget up again

Good job on aiming to get her to the track, That's when the functional modifications come in to play, But your absolutely going the right way, I'd rather have a 170bhp B16 car that will lap a track all day than a highly strung engine which doesn't give you the same confidence. You need some pads and tyres for that track! I'd honestly stick to OEM shafts man if they have no faults, Can't beat OEM reliability even if the shafts are used particularly on an OEM engine setup, Spend that money else where, replace a shaft if/when required, again that's my opinion.

Yeah Kris trying to cover every aspect to ensure this engine doesn't end up like some others in the country it was healthy when I was taking it a few blasts up and down the road when it was functional in the EM1 so hopefully I have prolonging its lifespan , I am not aiming for silly figures with it I want to use it for what it is , a good healthy DOHC B series for road and track using this engine as a stepping stone , down the line if its not enough B18C or K20 will be contention but that's a long way down the road , Meisters For my birthday and then hardrace camber and toe arms to get the car weighted and balanced for cornering at Dynotune in ballymoney , so this is the plans , family are buying me a few surprises at xmas to tidy up the engine yenno solenoid covers and oil caps etc , but I have nearly all the main aspects myself covered just need a clutch as I said and going to invest in CV joints with oem boots as the aftermarket boots are shocking quality

awesome.
can u perhaps post the partnumber of the gates powersteering and alternator belt?

Been a bit quiet recently with Christmas presents and new year taking up most of my time but have a few we bits to show and hopefully sooner the better on the bigger updates , the car is now undergoing most of the part changes on the b16 so it shouldn't be far off when am ready to collect the civic from storage , over Christmas the girlfriend treated me to genuine Nardi Steering wheel suede with red stitching real nice wheel ;) , As well as this the brother got me a genuine spoon sports oil cap and then with some left over Christmas money I treated the engine to a OEM Honda clutch , As well as a DC2 oem airbox set up purchased from kipper on here , so all should come together soon all I need to do is wait on the mounts and am ready to go with the engine now , some pics

Update 22/03/2015 Engine Mounts

So last week I have spent getting closer to getting the car out am going to be selling my daily soon to fund the paint on the civic as I am having the engine bay painted before the b16 is fitted so I have been working on Refurbishing the B-Series Engine mounts , I started off with Degreasing them all with Gunk Degreaser then air drying them left to hang with Jenolite rust Treatment jel for over a day with constant coats topped up and applied when needed , after I then cleansed the surface between wire brushing , using wire wheels on my drill and moving from 80 grit - smoothing with 400 grit sandpaper I got the mounts to an acceptable standard for Painting which I am doing with hammerite direct to rust paint smooth black paint as I was advised by local shop was the best for the job , not to fussed on finish with these mounts just wanted them in a respectable looking condition for fitting hate scabby parts ! , Both Torque Mounts where in dire condition and one fell apart during refurb so I purchased 2 new torque mounts to join the newly painted brackets and mounts. Will let the pics do the talking now ......

Update 25/04/2015

So basically i have collected the car from storage MOT is booked for Saturday 2nd May i am basically ringing everyday for a cancellation but so far no luck , getting the car passed for the year before i conduct the swap the engine is ready i am just yet to get over and get photos when i have been their i havent had a decent camera on me , but i have an agreed price on my engine bay now , their will be no smoothing done as i dont want filler plastered all over the bay , so just a refurb will most likley be happening still possibly in another colour toying between keeping my colour or picking a nice JDM colour (Y) , so since i got the car back all mounts have been sorted , i am now currently DIY'n the EM1 VTi wheels i got with the donor car i used , i am going to use them for the track as they are a OEM honda wheel in really good condition so it would be rude not to :) , The biggest Update is that i now for once own proper suspension in the form of Meister R's they look the job cant wait to get them fitted ! I will be updating more often now with every update that comes into play now , next purchase will be P28 with Rywire conversion Harness to run the OBD1 Ecu want a simplified swap wiring is not my thing lol.

Awesome updates man, Wheels for the track as well? Sounds good and also a good shout on not filling up the bay with isopon, I really don't see the fascination in this, Freshly painted factory bays are where it's at, not worrying about cracking your strut tower filler during a B-road blast!

Yeah may as well use the Em1's and with it being a oem Honda wheel , yeah getting matthew balfour to do the work hopefully he leaves it good i am really struggling to decide on colour tho :S had midnight purple as an option , or the old EG Teal green for the bay i dont know tbh :S , yeah i cant wait to get the coilovers etc fitted with the b16 i drove the car first time other day and just felt right to be back in it , i dont see a day i will ever sell it tbh !

Ah nice, He does a good job! Colour wise I personally wouldn't go anything too 'show/scene', Keep it purposeful/simple, Don't want to look like a woofter scene boy when pulling the bonnet at the track haha, I reckon my suggestion is on point in your post regarding colour :nice:. Will be very nice with the Meisters, Good job on the ARC too, Make sure you keep them clean! Sounds like your enjoying it man!

Update 14/05/2015

As soon as Htune opens again i am ordering my P28 as i have the funds now , am having a bit of a problem with MOT atm which has held off the engine swap car is up for retest soon , failed on a break imbalance and i don't understand why on inspection no faults with the drum , shoes and cylinders all replaced last year and have been working fine until MOT Flexy hoses are being changed for retest incase its a pressure problem. this aside i have recently changed the filter and fitted new bolts to my dc2 airbox i purchased and i gave my rocker cover a quick paint job before fitting all the new seals to it have been in a bit of a rush recently with exams for uni while trying to get out and work on the engine but so far all that needs done now is fan belt and power steering belt everything else is fitted including magnetic sump plugs as well as this i have purchased Hel braided lines for when i upgrade to 282 front's and the vti rear disc set up which will all come after the engine is in and running well.

Looking good mate, some great progress. What colour did you use for the rocker cover?

So After a couple of hard days work at the car getting it ready for the bodyshop it has finally been left in with the bodyshop and i am expecting it to take a week and a few days for the work to be completed , a full factory refurbishment of the engine bay and chassis points around it with any rust cut out and welded with reinforcement and re seam sealed ! as well as having the rear bumper and lip repaired due to my mum accidentally reversing into the rear bumper so i am looking forward to getting this all completed , i am still awaiting my P28 from Htune and i have ordered silicone coolant hoses with new stainless Hose Clips so very little left to purchase.
