Ok so rebuilding my s4c lsd box from my ek9 while i have it stripped i done some research and decided to get a dc2 4.7Fd
I was told i needed the crown wheel,pinion,1st gear and needle roller bearings, got the above bits, first thing i noticed is the 1st gear on my s4c shaft was identical to the dc2 1st gear and fitted straight onto my dc2 4.7 pinion, even though ive read numorous times that the 1st gear from the dc2 box has to be used for it to work???
Next problem is my 4.7 crownwheel it wont even fit over my diff where it bolts on as centre is smaller than the 4.4 crownwheel,
Is there anyway i can know for sure i have a s4c mainshaft and layshaft? Also how can i be sure my lsd is the optional extra honda helical diff? All is stripped on the bench and was told these was a direct fit job, can anyone shed any light?can get any pictures if its any help

It's not a 4.7fd is my guess mate.
If the ring gear is too small for the lsd im guessing you've got one from an s4c non lsd box.

The only difference im aware of between s4c lsd and s4c non LSD is the size of the ring gear is smaller on the s4c non LSD. Meaning you cannot fit say an ek9 LSD into a vti gearbox.

As mentioned, it sounds like the shaft and ring gear are wrong

Can you count the teeth on the ring gear and pinion and we might be able to identify what you have?

As said count the teeth, divide the big number by the small number to calculate the final drive ratio

Ive bought the final drive of a reputable member who has confirmed he took it from a 98 spec dc2 s80 gearbox
Heres some pictures

The last picture shows where my 4.7 crown wheel wont fit over my diff, does my diff look to be a oem one?

As said, count the teeth on both gears to be sure of ratio.
Does look like an LSD to me, although didn't aome jap versions of vti etc come with an optional extra LSD?

Yep looks like oem EK9/DC2 diff, as above count the teeth and you'll know

Some siR's came with a viscous diff, but they look different again

So the final drive i got is a 4.78 out of s80 from dc2,crown wheel has 67teeth pinion has 14,meaning its a 4.78FD
The crown wheel that was in my box has 66 teeth and its pinion has 15 teeth so its a 4.4, the casing of the box is stamped s4c LSD, any other way i can know what isnt right here?

Its definitely a 4.78 going by the teeth count then

The only thing I can think of is that it could be an Mfactory 4.78 final drive designed for the S4c box.. This means that it will fit the S4C diff and the S4C 1st gear will fit the countershaft without any problems

Where did the LSD that you bought come from? Are you certain that its a DC2 TYPE-R LSD?

As above I was going to suggest an aftermarket fd for non lsd s4c

My thoughts are the same as above,

If your first gear is the same then the 4.7 is most certainly not oem,

I always thought the difference between non lad and lsd ring gear was bolt pattern not centre bore

What a puzzle lol
As mentioned got to be some aftermarket FD?
The diff in the non LSD s4c has a smaller diameter ring gear, just like yours...

I didnt buy an lsd i have an ek9 s4c lsd gearbox i went and bought a 4.7Fd that was taken from a 98spec dc2 s80 gearbox
I was told i needed the crown wheel,pinion,1st gear and needle bearings for first gear, i got the parts above, stripped my box, seen the two 1st gears where identical which i thought was strange and then when i went to swap over crown wheel onto my diff it wont fit, either im missing something very stupid, something has been changed in my box and its not original s4c lsd or the 4.7 fd ive got isnt right, but the seller has assured me he took it from an s80 gearbox and hes a reputable member on here so not really doubting him,any suggestions?when im involved it couldnt be straight forward!!

So whose is the diff in the first pictures, the sellers?
Or yours with the old ring gear on it?
Can you compare the two?

No the diff in the first picture is my own as i took it out of my gearbox, the 4.4 fd is fitted to it in the first pictures, the 4.7 wont fit over the diff

Ok so it's Defo the ring gear then?

Nearly has to be if my standard 4.4 ring gear fits my standard diff and my 4.7 ring gear wont? Its came out of an s80 gearbox for sure so cant see why it wont fit and cant understand how my own first gear is the same as the one i got out of the s80
Does the honda dc2 4.7 final drive have any markings on it so i can 100% confirm this?
