Basicly bought this laptop 2 years ago with the intentions of getting it set up for diagnostics for cars(never happend) anyway my engine management light has been on for a while on the civic so im just wondering if anyone has software for laptops to use with there civic also what is it obd? obdII?

Just need a paperclip to read the fault codes on your civic.

Unless you're doing data logging and have all the extra kit, there's not much in the way of diagnostics you can do with a laptop on an ek.

I see, i was just looking for a general reader. It would be used on several cars.
I did have a code reader but i couldnt read my car (ej9) the reader was OBDII EOBD

if youve got a obd2 to usb reader then download easy obd2 or obd wiz iv got them on ma laptop at home, cant remember the rest as im in college but they offer code reading and real time data for free bud

Regardless of what software you have if its a pre 01 honda you will need the 3 pin "HON-1" adaptor plug, i managed to get one for our snap on scanner off ebay. Dont know weather you can get then for a generic usb diagnostics cable though.

Probly be easier to read the blink codes, will probly be a lambda probe anyway lol

do facelift civics not have obd2 16 pin connector, mines is 1999 ej9 and its obd2 16pin

im totally confuesd as to what my car is, i tried a second code reader today and still nothing.

I have a 2000 W reg honda civic tropicann 3 door 1.4.

it has the 16 pin plug

Whats blink codes ?

thats the software i use it should set itself up with ur usb to obd connector, ignition on and connect but for the blink codes i think u need to bridge to pins on the obd socket for the car not sure though

Okay so ive had a look around the net and seen alot of infor so correct me if im wrong.

My car is obdII so how come i couldnt get any code readers to work?
The first one i tryed was a cheap one from ebay couldnt connect to car
Second one was launch v, cant remeber the full name, the boy used that in his focus st and it works fine but i cant get it to power up from my car.
Ive always had bad luck with readers an ive never got them to work.

Im going to try the blink thing at the weekend. Could someone give me pointers as how to do this?

The plug next to your two pin plug you use for blink codes, all the pre 01 hondas ive had hav had them? Never seen one with a modern DL-16 plug on if thats what your refering to as your standard plug.

check your fuses for the data link connector (obd2 plug)
get a test light and probe the plug in the car for live and ignition lives ect
heres a pin layout http://www.kollewin.com/EX/09-16-16/OBDII_PLUG.jpg
