Hi,

Wasnt sure where to put this thread, so mods feel free to move.

I know the EK9 rear subframe is strenghtened from factory, but was wondering if anyone on this site would be able to fabricate a subframe brace for other EKs?

Ive had a look at prices of the ASR brace and they seem high, so thought someone may be able to fab one and possibly do a group buy?

I found this diy EG-Rear SubFrame Brace - Tie-Bar!! DIY - Honda Forum / Acura Forum - SuperHonda.com, but its for an EG.

Note sure if an EG one would fit EK's.

Are there any fabricators who would be able to do this for UK members?

EG would not fit EK and vice versa. only DC`s are straight fit to EG in most parts.

Had a quick check aluminium supplies on google and the cost of materials needed should come to about £75-80 per brace. So anyone with the dimensions for an EK brace could CNC them in no time.

Total price should be around £100? Am sure some other people would be interested at that price, especially since the exchange rate has dropped, people would be saving about £70-£80.

you could buy ek9 subframe and have profesionally welded on but not cheap, option i went with

i may have ek9 subframe for sale but wont know for several weeks (need to decide what im doin with a car)

invo auto do one for a heck of a lot cheaper.....good quality too, and it's in the UK so you don't end up paying £180  for ASR

I'm guessing you have access to a CNC?

£105......I'm sure the ASR one will provide better strength, but it's just too expensive to ship it over here at the moment, £180 just for the brace + taxes..... :(

That looks like a good brace. Both that and ASR are great designs.

I think with a good steel plate and some grinding tools you could just make your own plate easily. You could weld it right to the outside of the subframe. It doesn't have to be too fancy like the ASR brace.

Hmm MFactory used to sell a similar unit for a very reasonable price and if memory serves me well even they said it was not intended for larger bars like 23mm+ and was decent upgrade for the price, nothing more.

My honest opinion is that it looks like a copy of the ST speedtech setup which i have on my car, instead of a stamped piece at the end though mine has a billet aluminum plate.

Here is a pic without the sway bar, sorry for the quality:

Sorry i don't have any other pics, here is the stock photo though:

isnt that srr one discontinued, i thougt they went out of business, always liked srr stuff

Joshm88 - Are you using your stock EK9 anti roll bar, or an aftermarket/thicker arb?

The brace looks good, but the end point where the arb d-bracket bolts to looks like it could bend outwards easily if enough stress went through, doesnt look as beefy as the asr brace.

I would consider getting one fabricated, but I dont have any dimensions for EK, would be useful if someone could find or post some up.

I'm not sure if they wen't out of business.....I just know that they are still listed on the invo-auto website?

Hi mate, that's not actually my car, it's taken straight from the invo-auto website, one of their demo cars I think! I was planning on purchasing this though since I can't really afford the ASR brace (which would be my first option!)

Hmmm.....I know it doesn't look as beefy, but I guess it boils down to what you intend to use your car for. I know a friend in Scotland who has an EK4 SiR who just runs the Beak's strengthening kit, which is probably the weakest of them all, he is running it with an EK9 swaybar and has had no problems for almost 3 years.....but that is just road use!

I'd be interested in perhaps some DIY ones if you are confident the quality would be good.....

I plan on using the DC2 swaybar's front and rear, so the stronger the better really!

I'm going to ring invo-auto tomorrow and ask them in detail about this brace, see if it's still available, see if it can be used with a DC2 swaybar etc...

I had a look on the invo site too, the srr style one is still listed and I have emailed them for more info. If you do speak to them, try mentioning a group buy, as im sure a few other people would be interested.

Im not too keen on the beaks brace either as the plates look like they wont really distribute load aver as wide an area as the srr or asr braces.

Im planning on tracking the car, and use a DC2 bar also, so something like the asr would be ideal.

I would plan on getting them fabricated by a local firm if someone can supply the dimensions to me, once I have run mine and it all works ok, I wouldnt mind getting more made up.
