hi guys i had an ek9 before and will prob be getting one soon again but just wondering on the whole honda and burning oil thing!

do all you guys ek9s burn a bit of oil?

i noticed with my ek9 it had 90.000miles that every 1000miles it could do with a top up not a major amount just a small bit!

does every vtec burn oi?l or is it age and wear and tear that has done this?

Ah, I was trying to be sarcastic.

No not all hondas burn oil , a well looked after example that was serviced regularly will use oil in a reasonable manner as long as the engine is healthy.

The ones that burn oil and puff smoke all the time are most likely are rough,

ya i understand ya mate:woot: ya ive had friends with vtecs that just drink the stuff!

so in theory they all burn a bit of oil no matter what condition engines in?

The more vtec and aggressive driving the more oil your gonna burn. All cars use a bit of oil between services. And I'm sure most hondas regardless of how heathy the engine is will burn a tiny bit.

they don't really burn it,
all depends on the oil grade/brand etc..

but i haven't yet come across a b-series which doesn't give a little smoke in vtec!
That in my opinion is a myth ..

They can burn oil but it depends on how you drive it if you always hit vtec then they do but its not alout you hav nout to worry about crap oil wont help get some good oil and you will be fine

My 60K B16 was burning a bit when I bought it. I welded a second vent onto the rocker cover and removed the breather box from the back of the block and vented them into a ctach tank and from then on it never burned a drop. Even on track the tank was virtually empty.

depends how much abuse they get, how worn the internals are.

My car doesn't burn oil if no vtec was use but if in vtec it burns abit. I think all vtec does the same even a rebuilded engine

My VTI burnt a bit of oil when VTEC'd. My EK9 burns a bit of oil if it gets thrashed i.e VTEC alot of the time and revving to 8k, also has a stroker kit fitted and I was told they tend to us a bit more oil than the standard engines as they are higher strung etc. If you only had to top yours up a small amount every 1000 miles then thats good :nice:

Mine burnt shitloads. One litre in 60 miles on it's last voyage.

Rubbish engines TBH, better off with a Peugoet. :p

i havent had to top mine up with oil since i bought it a year ago. but then i change the oil and filter every few k anyway.

Mine doesn't burn any oil, and doesn't smoke at all. serviced every few k as well.

My b18c-r smokes when backing of at high rpm and uses about 1l every 1500 miles

valve stem seals need doing

i change oil every 3-4 or 5k never over 5k i noticed after 3k and hard abuse it starts burning some oil nothing to worry about just 250-350ml at 5k.
so i try to change oil every 3.000km i use ams oil 10w40.

When I had my B16B it never burnt a drop, even with different types of oil and after heavy driving on track days... miss that engine... :(

my jordan burns none either even with the thinner oil it uses now, doesnt smoke at all it seems the b16's seem to be less prone to burning oil than the b18's as my teg would burn a drop and no a few around me that do the same

I have a B18c. The oil level decreases after a month normal use. It eats up a liter of oil after a hard track session. But after a rebuild, it stopped consuming oil. Just sharing.
