Is it worth doing this? The car was mapped with the bumper off and i think it will breath better if i drill a 100mm in the bumper where the filter is located.

Opinions?

I have wanted to do this, get more air to airfilter as its right behind the bumper.

I think it would be worth doing.

From what I've read, the ram air effect is nothing until over 100 MPH and even then the funnel needs to be specially constructed and placed for any noticeable effect. Tried it on the rally-car on the dyno with a standard airbox, hole in the bumper with tubing and a giant fan and it made 0 BHP extra.

Thats what i think.... Or am i being naive and the throttlebody, intake manifold and cams will only suck in the air they can suck in???

Whats i was feeling.... Thanks for confirming :thanks:

I always see two sides to this

Are you really bothered about a couple of horse power that you could hack your bumper for them? Sure get a second bumper for track use and hack away but if you read on.........

Nobody ever thinks about aerodynamics or knows enough about them - sure on the rollers you may gain a few HP but how does this affect the car in real life driving? it may not effect it at all but i'd like to know.

dont do it it will make no positive difference, ideally you want a volume of air to be able to draw from thats as least turbulent as possible, hence sucking the air from the inner arch / bumper relief is a good idea,

Just use your brakes less, will make you much faster than a hole in your bumper :nice:

waste of time imo as there is little if any real power gains and it looks complete pants. only real positive would be it might help keep things cooler in the hot weather?

There would be NO power gains from the flow of air that the hole would allow. But there would be power gains from the cold dense air it now has better access to.

Its the cool air temperature coming from the outside, not hot air from under the hood, that will net you the positive gains.

But do not cut your bumper open; for the love of all that's good in the world, don't cut your bumper. Get a sealed CAI like the Mugen or lower cost comptech ice box and you should be all set.

Didnt think it would make a big difference, ah well never mind

i have done this, and had no power gains surely, but cool air is available at all speeds and in adequate volume. Can`t do no harm for sure.

why not fit one of these carbon ducts.

^^ what he said. that looks clean and you don't have to cut a big ass hole on the bumper and the velocity stack sticking out of it

Or just open up the fake vent built into the bumper. I did this and I can hardly tell that I touch it.

I thought you were going to cut a round hole like I have below, u.g.l.y:

ian ive had my v2 in the normal location for 3 years and you can hear it getting enough air a hole in the bumper is going to make fook all difference aprt from the potiential to eat lots more bugs than it would normally and perhaps a small furry creature! ;)

Ians is pre facelift and there's nowt like the above you can do to it, will look gash Ian, Just brake less as Steven said

As long as the filter intake is far from the engine bay you should be golden.
