EG6 pure track toy joy!

So much love for this. I need to tackle rust on my ek or reshell!

Just read the hole thread wish i did this with my old yellow eg serious job lad

These track EG are really growing on me now, didn't like them before...
Nice work!

Shame about all the rot, I've tackled many a project like that in the past, and done the whole looking at it in despair thing.

Keep your chin up, you'll get there.

How about blanking the fuel filler area off and going for a fuel cell?

Took today off to carry on with this, need to get it done this weekend as I'm hoping to be on a trackday early next month and I'm off to Canada for three weeks with work next week!

So started with a fairly easy job which was to tackle the rest on the chassis rail that has appeared behind the brake line bracket. So as with all rust the only way to deal with it is to cut the bastaqrd out!

Then used the cut out piece as a template for the replacement;

And finally weld it all back up;

Cutting this area out was tricky;

And welding in the new piece was even more fun! Laying underneath it all with molten metal showering down was a treat ;)

I haven't bothered cleaning it up as it's right up out the way.

I've got most of the inner arch done now hopefully get it completed tomorrow. Whilst I was waiting for tool batteries to charge I decided to get a feel good job done :D Following on with a sort of 'extreme' Kanjo style I wanted to stencil my tyres with a team name that I came up with for me and my mates who race, so here it is;

I only stencilled one wheel but I think it looks badass, can't wait to see all the wheels done and on the car :)

Also need to clear up the little bit of over spray!

Got a lot done yesterday, finally all the welding (on this arch at least) is done! Took nearly a 12 hour day yesterday to get to this stage.

Got all the inner arch welded up, again no point making it look pretty as it'll never be seen again, I did coat all the welds and bare metal to help protect against future rust!

Then came the uber fun task of try to line up this bastard skin! It was cheap and I guess that's why it just didnt want to line up. But with a lot of cutting and swearing I got it pretty close. The main issue is it doesnt follow the virtucal line of the car. When it come to filling I'm going to have to take my trusty basher to it.

Any once it was aligned as good as I could get it I tacked it in,

Then stitched it in about an inch at a time,

I'm going away for 3 weeks with work so I wont have time to complete the job. So I cleaned up the welds and gave everything a coat of etch primer to prevent and rust forming whilst I'm away then I'll attack it with the filler and hopefully get it silky smooth once again :)

So today I'm going to colour coat the inner arch and get all the footwork back on to get it back on its feet. Hopefully get the other tyres stencilled and maybe , hopefully go for a cheeky blast to see what this gearbox feels like! ;)

Nice job. Well done ;)

Lovely eg man, A lot of work gone into taking out the rust, but good to see it being done properly. I'm dreading having to get mine done because I'll have to pay someone else to do it and hoping they don't do it half arsed. Luckily I don't have a whole lot to get done though.

Yeh man mine has been done before, they just plated over the rust instead of cutting it out! Took great pleasure in just removing the lot :D

So got it all back on the ground today, pretty happy with the results but I'm shattered, been a solid weekend of graft!

First job was to get the inner arch painted. I used this stuff called KBS diamond white. It's bloody good stuff, isn't cheap though. It's meant to dry 'diamond' hard so should be pretty hard wearing.

Other than that I re-bled the brakes, sorted a few more small jobs out and finally put her back on the ground for some hard parking, enjoy ;)

Went for a blast also, that final drive is working a treat - car is fast! I'm away now with work but hopefully going to be hitting a track day at Bedford on the 3rd October.

That's cool man, can't please everyone :)

Wanted to do the stencilled tyres for a long time and personally I love it, exactly the look I wanted to go for :D

Great job man. Are you doin all the work yourself?? If so fair play looks unreal :nice:

I love the mad track look.

She looks like a mad drag yoke but then shes still so clean :)

Serious stuff going on in here. Wish I had the funds to do this to my EG while still being able to play with the FA5.

Cheers Guys, yeh done everything myself up until now.

Not much to update, done a few track days at Bedford recently. The car is a grip monster. Nothing could touch it in the corners!

I'll be cracking on with the arches soon enough and trying to make it all clean and tidy :)
