Hi I would like to know what's the difference from the EK2/3/4 all the way up to the EK9? The only thing I really know, is that the EK9's are ONLY in Japan and are RHD with the B16B Type R engines. But what's the difference from the rest of the EK's? And how far do they go up to? Cause I'v only heard of EK2/3/4 and EK9's. And how can you tell which is which? cause I'v been calling them by "Hatchback CX" and "Hatchback DX". Thanks
 
well an ek9 is the civic type r from 97-00, its engine is B16B, an ek4 is a civic sir from 95-00, its engine is B16A.. 95 ones are rare enough. both are from japan even doh the ek4 can be got in an uk spec which is known as the vti, there is also the vti-s and the jordan limited edition... i'm not sure what the ek2 is. the ek3 is another uk model i think.. 1.4 litre.. could someone back me up on this please..
 
yup ek3 is 1.5 vtec-e. I used to own one, a great car! :) you cant get an ek2!

How do you get ek3's are crap like??!! They may be slow but they are not CRAP, get a grip! EK4's are not just alright they are great and yes ek9's are the dugs baws! :D
 
i agree with you ramboteamjon ek3 are'nt crap if you want a good reliable run around then 1.5 is good got a bit of poke also. mine had done 120,000 when i sold it and drove like new!! only lost £500 when i sold it and i owned it for 2 years!!

If you want a cheap runaround, buy a diesel.

Everyone I know with 1.4/1.5's tell me they get sh!tty mpg.

So whats the really big difference between EK4 and 9s? Parts or performance?

Cant the EK4 be as quick as the EK9?

Please advice guys... :angry:

Eh... No mate they are not crap!!:mad: 1.4s have sh*t mpg but the 1.5 gives great mpg and is no slouch for its size. I would get 350miles to £30 no probs!:clap:

EK3 is a 1.5 not a 1.3! It has a D15Z6 engine producing 117Bhp. I had one for two years also and never lost money on mine also! Mine had done 100,000miles when I sold it!:D

you go mate.. i have a ej9 i agree the mpg is pretty shocking but im happy with it.

Thanks so much for the info brother. Anyway i read and saw. The power of an EK4 compared to a EK9 is not that huge afterall.. For instance if you purchase aftermarket parts i.e the valve springs, valves, pistons...etc
And install in a EK4, wouldnt that bring the performance back up to a EK9?

Morever if you wanna buy more parts and upgrades, wont that be even more powerful than an EK9? Basically i wanna know the goodness of 9..
 
yes but this isn't the case for the b16b engine. It's very different to b1a and more close to b18b (destroked). B16a comparing to b16b have different r/s ratio making the latter an ideal engine to rev high without problems. It's a piece of art. Imagine that many parts have been manually evolved by japanese mechanics. Yes you can easily reach 185hp with a b16a by having intake, exhaust, and ecu tuning. You can even swap some ek9 stock cams. Still the b16b engine has a totally different idea of making this extra amount of power.
