EK9 Facts and Myths

My ek9 tank was smaller than the tank in my coupe and that didn't have a rear wiper.

Unless it's a preface lift ie a 96-98 thing

There are several part numbers for coupe and prefacelift ek9. The facelift ek9 shares the same part number with sedan.

Coupe all years: 76840-S01-A02
Facelift ek9, Race base and Sedan: 76840-S04-922
Prefacelift ek9: 76840-S04-003

Facts I gather over the years
1. Most Ek without rear wiper have a tank that for two motors with one blank out.

2. JDM and other countries have different capacities of tank.

3. Those UKDM with headlights washer have the largest capacity.

So before a conclusion is made with what Ek are comparing with, make sure the chassis, year made and equipment and trims are considered.

Yeah all my previous EKs have had the rear and front bumper brace/crash bars and the EK9s front and rear ones are lighter

The EK9 bar behind the rear bumper is not a crash bar. Its a stiffener bar for the chassis. The 99-00 Civics have a crash bar behind the rear and front bumper.
All the EK9 have this crash bar behind the front bumper except the RACE. The EK9 RACE have another stiffener bar behind the front bumper.

The EK9 washer tank has always the same part number (76840-S04-003) From Facelift EK9-110 onwards the part number was replaced in 76840-S04-013. It doesnt matter if it is a regular EK9-100 or EK9-110 or EK9-120 or RACE. If you order a new tank nowadays the 76840-S04-013 is the right part number. By the way it is the same part number like 96-00 4-door civic for indonesia, Taiwan, New Zealand and some other not european markets.
So another myth busted.

best regards

Anyone has pics of this ?

I'm very interested in seing differences with ek4 subframe and arms.

You'd get the idea here:

just read through all this, interesting stuff. As for the washer bottle, i think thats just a JDM thing, my EG6 SiR has a smaller bottle than a UK spec

Question time...

Does the EK9 have the heavy 3 piece bars that run through the middle of the car which you can unbolt? Im wondering if it increases how stiff the chassis is? The way its bolted makes me think it does or is it just for safety? All 3 pieces weigh a good bit so im wondering if i should remove or keep them

Can anyone post some pictures of the EK9 front LCA's showing the seam welds? Im tempted to stitch weld a ej9 subframe and LCA's if its going to help how it handles, thoughts on this?

Is the front strut tower any different on the EK9? im wondering if its stronger or plated underneath to support the thicker strut brace? The ej9 doesnt have studs for the brace to bolt to so i was going to use bolts with big thick washers in the wheel well, hopefully wont tear anything

Still unsure if the EK4 and EK9 steering rack are the same?

Are the side mouldings thinner on the EK9 compared to other models?

You can get braces which mount in the floor behind the front seats, not standard however.

Don't think the strut tower is any different apart from having the studs for the strut brace

Ek4 and ek9 rack are definitely different, The lock to lock is less on the ek9.

Side mouldings are the same on ek4 and ek9 for sure.

yeah seen those floor braces but my ej9 has 3 big bits of metal which go along the floor and you can unbolt, maybe its just on the facelift im not sure

i always thought the ek9 steering rack was a bit quicker but then saw this...

Reference the steering and turns of the steeering wheel LTL
Just did this a moment ago with my lad who has an EK4 which i fully beleive is standard rack...

EK4 = 2 and six eighths
EK9 = 2 and six eighths

how are the 9's front LCA's different? hardrace make some and say you need ek9 suspension forks if using them on lower model cars, are they wider?

https://jhpusa.com/products/hardrace-front-lower-control-arms-99-00-civic-si-jdm-civic-r-ek9

and looking on hardrace UK it looks like the bushes are different too?
