Hi everyone! New to the forum so I hope I've put this in the right section. Im going to look at buying my first Honda, an EK9. The S4C thats in it is a straight cut box with a crunch on both 3rd and 5th. The straight cut box is going to be a bit unnecessary for what I'll need. However Im struggling to find another standard EK9 S4C for sale. I have found an S80 with 4.7 FD thats been fitted with close ratio 4th and 5th from an S4C. Just wondering if this is considered a good setup for the B16b? Or whether it would be possible/realistic to get the current gearbox rebuilt with a standard gear set?

hello and welcome to the forum! If you know the gearbox you found is good with no issues that's what I'd go with, it's the perfect box for a EK9 IMHO. I've got 4.9 final drive in mine and love it, the dc2 final drive is just a little bit longer but not by much. Just out of curiosity, what make and ratios are the straight cut gears in the box? And what kind of diff is in it?

Thanks! Im not sure on the ratios but its got an ATS plated LSD. The car was already fitted with the box when imported I believe. Good to hear the S80 sounds like a good combination.

if you want to sell that S4C give me a shout ill take it off you no probs for the race car

Now a proud owner of an Ek9! Went to look at the car earlier in the week and ended up bringing it home. Im still considering going for the S80 4.7FD with 4th and 5th from an S4C. My main concern is what this would be like at motorway cruising speeds? I realise its never going to amazing, however I'd like to do the odd track day with it but living down in Cornwall means its quite a drive to most tracks. Just wondering if anyone's running the same setup and what they think of it? Cheers!

Perfectly doable IMHO, if it is your only car and you drive on motorways a lot then it's not ideal, otherwise it's not a problem and well worth the extra acceleration. As I said before, I have 4.9 fd and it's fine, and my car is completely stripped out so it's quite noisy. Fuel economy is a bit worse but who cares?
