Hi all

Interested to know the spec differences between the OEM ek9 calipers v the Spoon twinblock calipers.

Can anyone help?
Cheers

Spoon Calipers are 4 pot ones, EK( OEM calipers are single pot

Weight and number of pistons. The OEM ek9 has a big single piston. Spoon twinblock uses 4 pistons. Twinblock Spoon calipers weigh in less than half of the Ek9

Bear in mind that EK4 calipers are good enough for racing (ask the Civic cup, or me); the EK9 calipers would be good enough for endurance racing.
EK Civics brake very very well. I think much of this is rear suspension design.

You might save a few grams with Spoon calipers, and win some scene points but that's it.

With the Spoon there are benefits like improved pad wear with the force being more evenly distributed using the 4 smaller pistons, lighter weight as mentioned and I guess alloy will dissipate heat more effectively as well. But in reality you'd do well to notice these things unless you were a serious track user.

On my Racecar I use a fully reconditioned set of EK9 calipers, PBS pads and Pagid blanks and have never had an issue with braking during a race, some of the EP3's I've raced with have 6 or 8 pot calipers and c.325mm discs and I've never felt 'out braked' in the EG.

I think it's important that you have a braking system in good condition, a BMC stopper and some decent pads and tyres and I'd be surprised if you needed more, although Spoon calipers are lovely things!

Spoon twinbock vs OEM:
  1. Spoon looks good
  2. Spoon will clear OEM ek9 wheels. But won't clear most of the aftermarket 15" wheel (u need at least 7J 35+ for clearance)
  3. much lighter which gives you a sharper wheel handling feedback. the best improvement so far
  4. pads rattle noise, make sure you can live with it
  5. stopping power is pretty much the same as OEM not really a huge improvement at all
