Went for the nct today ( anyone who doesn't know what it is, its where they test the car to make sure its road legal ). Passed on everything except high emmisions. Could this be due to the integra engine under the bonnet, cat, high octane fuel?? Any suggestions on how to get the emmissions down????

I know all about the feckes at the NCT center ....

Have you remeoved your cat??? what mods if any have you done??

when ya say the emissions are high is it the lambda,co,co2,nox,o2? just so i cud narrow it dwn lad

The cat if standard might be fuc*ed happened to me once on a civic. If running higher octane fuel id go back to the standard 95ron for test. There is some off the shelf pre-nct fuel treatment's available might be worth a shot.

u will ahve to tell them its a 1.8

stuff i changed on my old car that kept failing on emissions...
tempreture transmitter ...if its broke will tell the car its cold, so therfore will run slightly on choke to *warm* the engine up, thus makin it run rich.

Coil pack...if this is ****ed, could be making a weak spark and causing unburnt fuel..makin high emissions

cat...this is what i changed last and eventually cured it!!

try a good oil flush an change, new plugs anf filters :)

I have put a b18c in to a friend's vti civic and passed no problem on emissions. Look inside the cat and if the mesh structure inside is broken in any way then its no good and you will need to get another cat for nct.

not strictly true mayte...it is in some extent, but when i replaced my old cat for the new one...it still looked intact!

Fair enough, just happen's to be any I have seen that were gone seem to go that way and fragments off metal falling out of it

yeh it does happen on some of em...i wasnt sayin u was wrong mate, jus sayin that in some cases they can look intact too!

i had this problem to... my car jus passed the nct today by 1 percent with the high emissions. i have a turbo b16, i put in fuel cleaner which actually helped alot, also a cat cuz i had none and got it tuned for emissions. that cat was new but wasnt enough to bring it down. if u arent that high maybe a cat will do it, mine needed tuning though to reduce the emissions

sori crease but it dosent matter if its a 1.1 or 3.0 ltr,as long as its on a petrol car in ireland the emission regulations are the same,it could be something as small as an air leak or as bad as the cat, have to wait and see what the readings were

ah right...thats a bit gay then lol!

over here we got different standards for diff sizes of engine :)

The lamdba was perfect, low idle co2 was well under, high idle co2 0.49 and its 0.3 that is allowed. ppm was 73 and 200 is allowed so its only high idle co2 thats the problem. I'm using the E5 fuel which has a higher octane. Some one recommended rephanol I think is the same of it. Mix it into the fuel for the nct and drive the car hard for a while before you bring it up and should help.

yeah lad mine was the same my high idle was to high. do you have any cat in your exhaust?

the handiest thing to do with that is nearly let the car run out of fuel your using and then put in €20 normal petrol along with a fuel addative or injector cleaner and give it a hare drive for a bit

yeah i have a cat in the exhaust at the min for the test. i was told aswell that the E5 fuel i'm using lowers emissions aswell. any body know if this is true??

diptane mate..

u can get it in most motor factors.. my old sir had a decat an full straight threw on it an i failed..
but a friend of mine told me to mix a bottle of diptane wit 20 litres of juice rather den wit a full tank an i passed..!!! it aint bad for de engine either itl jus make does 20 litres burn abit richer..

give it a shot..

Sorry for the thread resurrection, I did a search and the problem mentioned is exactly what has happened me! Would love to know how it was resolved? :nice:
My CO is over limits.
Here are the figures from both my tests. I used diptane (in concentrations as stated on bottle) between tests but it seems to have made things worse :(( Car is a 97 SIR completly standard, catalytic converter in place which passed the same test two years ago. Any help would be great. I dont want to buy another cat and find out it was something else! Thanks for reading. :nice:

Limits for NCT:
Lambda between 0.97 and 1.03
CO above 0.30% = Fail
Hc above 200 ppm = Fail

Day one:
Oil temp 81*c .
High Idle
Lambda 1.00
CO 0.38 vol%
HC 52ppm

Day two:
oil temp 82*c
High idle
Lambda 1.00
CO 0.42%Vol
HC 59 ppm

i gave him a loan of my cat for the test as i think his one was shot.
