First swiss EK9 (TypeRx) and modding story

Hi, in switzerland we call it "lasur" it's a kind of black Glaze. it's transparent so you still see the original chrome under that black coat. i dont know exatly how it was made because a paint shop did it for me! Also i believe my headlights got a bit to dark for that genuine EK9 look, but i think only Ek9 owners will see the difference and since i'm the only one here in switzerland - no one will ever know that they're not real EK9 lights :D

can i noe what is this?
4249188

exactly, it's a fuel pump cover. this one was made by compositesfab, but it's not avialeble anymore.. the company doesn't exist anymore :D
but they should still be avialeble by password:JDM (USA) i think...

anyway:
The story Contiunes <hurray>

today i got the long awaited document from honda switzerland - a confirnment of the first registration date, weight, axle-ratios and size of the car. so no i can go on with my registration! <thumbsup> <thumbsup> <thumbsup>

Big thanks to honda switzerland!

and there where also some jobs done the last few weeks:

1) Die EK9-style painted LHD Headlights mounted:

DSC04501.JPG

2) also some small parts arrived.. just buying these small parts untill registration is done, after then the big parts will come. but i cant just sit here and wait without ordering anything from Japan :D

- Feel's / Honda Twincam Japan Carbon inner mirror cover, fits really great!!
DSC04645.JPG

- Seeker Japan radiator cap (the HKS was a bit tooo much and color didn't match the engine bay so i sold it and bought this one...)
DSC04652.JPG

- Honda Optional Window visors. the ony i got with the car are kind of scratched. dindn't want to buy new ones allready yet, but honda japan told me they only had one set left in stock and there will no new ones be produced so i had to get the last set directly from the honda warehouse in japan :D
DSC04657.JPG

- Vision / Technicasport Japan Shifter bushings:
due to i had a customer order for this i also bought a set for me, because i think there is much "space" in the genuine bushings, the shifter sits very looose.. hope you understand what i mean. and hope this bushes will fix that problem :D
DSC04674.JPG

- Also for some fun reason i got this "Yamazaki" - a real japanese single-malt whiskey, destilled and aged 10 years in Japans oldest Destillery, outside of Kyoto :D
DSC04670.JPG

due to i got my document today, i will head on with my registration and things, mount theese parts soon, and also i will get some parts from "Augment" japan soon.. more updates coming soon..

best regards - Nils

Nice Going! You'd better get on the phone to a national magazien to do a feature on it soon then, Be te first! :nice:

How did you deal with Japan honda? was it through this JDM junkies??? or did you deal directly. Im sure alot of people on here would love to know

JDMjunkies is my company and i got an employee and a warehouse directly in yokohama, so it's quite easy for me to get all japanese parts and information avialeble on the JDM-market :D

Yes there's still some updates on the car :)

1) I didn't pass the exhaust emission test with the SARD racing catalytic converter, so i decidded to go for en EK4 exhaust system with DC2 header and new EK4 cat. that's better catalytic work than the genuine EK9 system, and it's only for registration purpose. it's a bit difficult, but once i have registered the car i can swap back to my tanabe system again, because it's allready noise measured. may sound crazy but that's swiss law :)

2) here's my used-parts Exhaust system for registration :)

DSC05149.JPG

3) Also a long cold-start was found at the exhaust emission test, and we found a defective thermostat. it has been replaced now and this time i really hope to pass the expensive and complicated exhaust emission test, so i can get this car on the road soon :)

4) Also i got a genuine japanese service manual now, with all the part numbers, electronic circuit printings and more. Honda japan extra had to reprint those for me, because they didn't have some in stock :)

5) Also i made some updates in the meantime..
- Augment Hood dampers got mounted (really fitted good and was easy to install)
- Feels carbon mirror cover got mounted (perfect fit!)
- i got a HOP Antenna cover.
- i got one of those JDM Soshinoya blingbling things (not sure if i will mount that *lol*)
- Seeker radiator cap got mounted
- Also i ordered some JDM SSworks radiator cooling panels for the front bumper. you'll see at the next update :)

now i have to redo the complete noise and emission tests, but i hope i will pass it this time, and that would mean it soon will be on the street :)

as you maybe can see, this isn't any one-day project, but good things need time i believe :)

here are some pictures a friend made at the biggest swiss Honda meeting in 2008 :D <thumbsup>

i thort you couldnt modify cars in switzerland? (how ever you spell it lol)

hi guys,
thanks for asking :) at the moment the car still isn't street legal, but i've done a lot of things to come closer to the number plates, also i've done some smaller updates to the car...

There'll be another big update here soon, but i'll have to get some things done until then. the project isn't dead at all :)

@ Ash, of course we can modify cars in switzerland, we have some 800hp evo's here street legal too, but it's just a lot more expensive and difficult to get things street legal than it is in other contries. ;)

Stay tuned, updates coming soon, and some big parts delivery will arrive here soon also :secret:

just to confirm, you have an ek4 and an ek9??? OMG i wish i could have 1/2 of them jajajaja...

excellent job man!! keep us updated!!

nope, i have an EK9 and en EJ9 as daily driver. the Ej9 is the D14 engined Ek chassis, no vtec, 90Hp, but cheap, almost no fuel consumption and good handling :)

real good write up enjoying this thread, dont think i could wait a year to get on the road. keep up the good work toda manifold is outstanding looking.

Hey guys,
once again - the story continues and the project is alive :)

Last november i gave the car to a so-called specialist because of time- and motivation-reasons i thought it would be easier if a specialist would do all the things and then bring it back to me street legal and registered this march. but sadly that specialist wasn't really a specialist and the car only was standing around there for a long time. really sad about the lost time... :((

anyway my new schedule gives me a few more hours weekly for spending time on my car so the project re-begann a few weeks ago, i got the car out of "jail" where it was since november and got the new exhaust system mounted (this will be replaced by the tanabe/toda/sard system again after exhaust emission test is passed!!)

it's an new OEM EK4 catalytic converter, an complete used EK4 exhaust system and DC2 OEm header. i chose this setup because the EK4 cat is longer and better then the EK9 one and right now it's all about exhaust emissions :) then i went for a pre-exhaust measurement at the other end of switzerland, looks like this there:

DSC05327.JPG

And: I passed the exhaust emission test, but sadly the CO-emissions where to high due to the long cold-start.

but more about this later...

In between i sourced a new garage for my baby in the same building as i live in, it's a long garage with space for two cars, so i moved in a lot of toolings and parts there and now can work on my baby every evening into late nights :)

DSC05328.JPG

also i got the augment hood lifters mounted, they're really great :)

DSC05342.JPG

also here a picture of the Feel's carbon mirror cover i mounted a few weeks ago:

also some new parts arrived here within the last time...
SSWorks japan Airflow-kit

so - what's next?
tomorrow i'll get my car to zoatectuning where a famous ECU Specialist (malte from MKR tuning in Magdeburg / Germany) will have a look on that cold-start problem, and hopefully solve it :)

also when i prepared my car today i found some small things that i could do and will look nice, and also there should be a set of Vision / Technicasport low position seat rails in my mailbox in about 2-3 weeks.

so hopefully there's going on a bit more now and updates will come more frequent again :)

stay tuned my EK9 friends :)

Great update! that board with all the gas bottles and the regulator gauges. is that some kind of reference input for a really old exhaust gas analyser?

For your long cold start does it take longer than say 2miles to get upto full operating temperature on the dash gauge? also does the temperature dip down at all when driving at speed?... if it does then you will find your thermostat at fault. I work on a lot of EK9s and find it fairly common for the thermostat not closing fully/reacting very slowly.

Im very interested in your light. where did you buy this from? cheers

just read this entire build and its awesome man!! Some REAL REAL nice parts youve got going on there! So much of it i want! lol that Toda Mani is a beast, along with almost everything else youve got.... including the liquor haha! :D
