I am really wondering how this car performs! Is there anyone who has had an extensive opportunity to test the car on how it performs on it's limits in bends and on the straight? I am sort of hoping that this is a RWD Type R....

S2000 is the rwd type r.
A member on here came from an ek9 to gt86. Can't remember his name though,

I have driven along with an S2k and that plus everything I've read makes me think the S2000 is NOT a RWD Type R. Not saying it's worse or better but a different car. More compromises. More comfy and the removable roof make the chassis les stuff. It's less hardcore. There is a reason why there are no real Type R's with sun roof (FN2 is not a real Type R in my book :p ).

I'm very impressed by the s2000 ! Out performs the ek9 in almost every area I can think of.

Yeah I believe you :) It's a great car. But I'm wondering about the BRZ/GT86 :)

Have test drove a GT86 and driven my mates s2k several times and the toyota dosnt even come close to the performance of the s2000 IMO

Dont get me wrong it was a very sharp responsive drive in the gt86 but IMO it just lacked the performance to compliment it.

What do you mean by performance? Cornering performance? Engine power?

Reviews I've read do say the engines aren't all that and they could do with abit more power.
Although there are compromises the s2k was built with performance in mind.
50/50 weight distribution, special cross beam floor thingy. They are also technically mid engined. LSD, double wishbones all round. External reservoir dampers on the rear.
Only real compromise really is the roof IMO,
But this is about the brz/gt86.
Not really read up about the specs on the car but heard they have a low centre gravity?

Yeah, lower than a Porsche Cayman, 7,5cm lower than an Impreza too. And from what I've read the engine indeed isn't what you would like it to be. the VTEC engines aren't that fast either in lower revs but when VTEC kicks in you get a frenzy. From what I've read, it's like the Subaru engine sleeps in low revs and easily gets up and starts walking, maybe fast walking in the high range, whereas Honda VTEC engines sleeps but jumps up and starts running like mad when VTEC kicks in (y0). So far haven't been able to find a place where I can rent one for a day :(

Long story short. Brother ended up testing:racing the local manager of the Toyota garage that drives a white one daily, he went to overtake after 2 flashes and my brother left him for dead with the foot down in 4th gear without any hesitation. Personally i think rolling and standing start and ek9/dc2 would beat it on a straight line. Not sure on handling wise though as i've yet to drive one.

Why is outright speed and acceleration the main talking point??

Yes the S2000 is a mega car for the price now a days, and is considered to be the gt86's main rival BUT the gt86 was not built for outright speed. It was build for fun, oldschool style classic fun.
FR layout with lsd, good steering and responsive brakes. They are set up to oversteer and have low grip Prius spec tyres for a reason.
Great drivers cars are not about straight line performance.
Gt86 is all about pure driving fun

I agree with you to a certain height. You shouldn't forget that being faster in acceleration can be more fun too plus it can make it easier to powerdrift :D I really wonder how it compares in terms of acceleration to the DC2, as it ain't that much more heavier and the power figure is the same. For me it's the reason why I have never considered a MX5/Miata NA or NB, for me fun is also fast acceleration and the ability to accelerate fast out of corners :) Besides that, from what I understand it's the character of the engine that is the problem, not the absolute power.

But daaaaaaaaamn I wanna drive one so bad to form my own opinion!

A low powered car will slide easy if set up to do so. For example the early S2000's had great power but were snappy and difficult to slide.
And yes power is fun in a straight line but for example, my old mx5 was way more fun to drive at lower speeds than my faster ep3. Speed and acceroration is all relevant.
A 600hp r35 accelerates massivly, but an s2000 compared to a gt86 is not much of a difference.

And yes a 2ltr boxter motor is never going to be as characterful as an F20 VTEC! But then there probably never will be another 4 pot that will be!

Defo go and drive one and see for yourself but as great as the gt86 is, for price the S2000 is prob a better option.

I can't find any place to rent them from unfortunately :(
