Hi, looking about getting a half decent gaming pc / work computer but dont have the first clue where to get one and whats considered a decent / good spec these days. looking to spend around £500 on the computer then whatever else on the peripherals.

should also add i wish to avoid anything with dell or windows vista, as they are both crap!
:thanks:

EBUYER is usually pretty good :nice: but when it comes to specs etc i have no idea sorry :((

I would use Aria mate,

Aria PC - Computer Hardware, Components, Monitors.. at lowest prices

If you contact them via email they are usually very helpful.

If you feel confident then buy the parts and build yourself, i do this stuff for a living and believe me anyone could slap a computer together.

You save money, you get to chose how you want the pc ect.

Also if you buy the parts and go over them via Aria email address if you're nice they will knock the delivery off or discount some of the parts :nice:

If you need help with anything mate drop me a pm.

Built all my computers using either overclockers or Ebuyer, very cheap. :nice:

Here's a link for the pre-built ones. However if you want to save on money build it yourself :nice:

Systems & Bundles » Gaming Systems - Overclockers UK

Highly advise win7 pro 64bit, very good!

At the end of the day, computer systems/components become out dated weekly/monthly its ridiculous.

Overclockers uk are very good. I got a i5 pre overclocked bundle few years ago.

cheers guys, i'll go check them out! Yea i dont mind building it up myself but its just knowing what parts to get without going mental! lol

research research research , if you put in the time you will know whats the best value for money , but to be honest i would not build my self a pc for 500 , i would get outdated really quick and before you know it it will be no good an better idea would be to add that 400 and build your self a good pc for 900 that will last 4-6 times longer , i build my pc for about a grand and it was pretty much top of the range , had it for almost 2 years and sold it for 700, but at the end of the day its what you really want , just a bit of advice from me :nice: ;)

not been keeping up with CPU's lately, last time i checked i7's were the ****, but apprantly AMD is quite good now? £500 would that be including Hard drives, monitors etc?

i've been looking at those sites and it appears i'll have to raise my original budget of 500. my plan was to spend around 500 on the tower and then whatever else was needed on a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Already good a good 5.1 system that i can re-use. Thinking now of getting a good motherboard, processor, ram, HD and then expanding from there. gigabite motherboards seem to be getting the best review noadays?

you really shuld go for a bundle , to save a bit of money i would got for the 2nd gen i5 2500 over the i7 , bit of over clocking and you have a more than good cpu :nice:

something like this

Dabs Ireland - Asus Intel Performance Bundle (Includes P8Z68-V LX Motherboard, Intel Core i5-2500K & 8GB DDR3) (ASUSINTEL-BUN12)

edit :
then all you need is a 750 -800W PSU bout 100
GFX card about 150-300
cpu sink about 90
HDD : you can save money here all depends what you need
then tower (i would go open case personally )

and a cheap cd-dvd drive just to install an operating sys ( other then that i dont see th point of a cd-dvd drive unless you are copying stuff )

That's a great processor, best one for gaming as an i7 isnt needed for it

Have a look at corsair XMS3 ram, XFX modular Power supplies are really good for the money. got an 850 in mine. Graphics card i'd recommend a Nvidia 560Ti 2gb (twin frozr 2 one for just over £200)

I'd recommend getting a cheap sealed water cooler which can be had for £40

Also get at least a 64 GB Crucial M4 SSD for windows (super quick)

Cases i'd recommend the corsair 600T as it's got amazing cooling and one of the best cable management for the money

Have a look on overclockers uk forum as they'll spec you a good pc for the budget you have :)

hopefully getting something in the next month or so! doing a computer/it technician nvq at the moment so learning loads of new info on how all the bits work together and what to look out for! :D

Go to google, Cyberpower

I have a alienware just now, and ill be getting my next gaming pc from them guys, And the cost of parts/labour isnt much more than what you would pay to spec/build one yourself, think 50-60 quid difference

Build it yourself mate, could make a pretty decent spec computer for £500, and stick windows 7 on it :nice: get a i3 quadcore processor and at least 4-6 gig of RAM and your laughing :D

built up a pretty good spec one for 600, just doing some more reading up on the parts before i buy. then i've got to get a decent monitor, keyboard, mouse, controller....
