Hi Guys,

I just want to ask other B16B owners about their gear shift point and whats the speed indicating on the shift.

My 2nd gear @ 8600rpm hits 103kmph(64mph) on stock ecu.. is this stock?

I know ITR's hit 96kmph(60mph) in 2 gear and needs a another shift to go past 100kmph(62mph).

Now with 9400rpm I hit somewhere around 108kmph

sorry mate my car is down right now or id check for you since i have a digital tach that is 100% accurate. i know in 5th gear at 80mph im at around 4400-4600rpm

So most probably you have the stock ECU since mine has it too and reaches 105 km/h at 8800 - 8900 rpm. Imagine now to start playing with the gear box. My mechanic told me that if I sacrifice some km/h I would have the feeling that the car produces 500 hp!! :D :D :D

wow, 500 is a bit off, if you install a 4.9 FD its equivalent to gainng about 30tq remember gears multiply tq, the shorter the gear the lower the top speed but the greater the tq multiplication.

500 hp is just to show how much beneficial will be   . Ok make it 350 hp! :D . Actually, for this B16B engine, this mod is one of the best mods for gaining torque if you don't mind to loose some km/h from your top speed. Here in my country, the top speed allowed is 100 km/h on the highway road only. There are not al lot of places where you can exceed 180 km/h, so here it would be a wise mod!! :)

im guessing your joking when you said 350? sorry its hard to tell sometimes. its more like gaining about 30tq a few people on here have already done it.

Of course I'm jokking man, I just wanted to emphasize the importance of this mod by saying something extreme... :angry2: :angry2: For example, you might put good cams, but by replacing your huge heavy wheels you may get better results. So the same with the gear box, by lowering your gear ratios, you feel like you have intalled 5 camshafts!! :)

lol!!!

I didn't really get that...

Anyway I was interchanging between my J's racing and SPOON Chip and the J's racing is much better... Spoon's chip kicks in at 5000rpm which didn't do any good or make any proper power until after 6200rpm.

J's however kicks in at 5500rpm which made the power more linear and smooth but kicks hard from 6000rpm. I think dropping the vtec point down to 5500rpm is best for the B16B. Any lower would be silly...

I hit about 108 km/h in second gear, i have the vtec at 5800 RPM and the revlimit to 9000 RPM :)

I hit about 0 km/h in gear 0, when VTEC doesnt kick in and rev limiter is at 0,000RPM, as i dont have an EK9 yet.. LOL :p

but soon to be! :D

lol, phew that was funny, but yes i agree, if you dont mind sacraficing top speed it really is the best mod.

i guess a lower gear ratio would be good for the b16B. But just slightly lower..

rvm: that's cool! :) 5800rpm vtec point is good too.. I notice the stock ecu would sometimes even kick in very late, at one time 6300rpm... :(

I even find that 5500rpm for the J's Racing ecu is a bit low but can't complain when after I installed this chip I could feel the increase in every rpm!! I didn't expect much but geez, it really did optimize the air/fuel timings. This was the most noticable mod so far.

When I bought the car, vtec was kicking in 6200 - 6300 rpm but with the S-AFC now it kicks in 6000(my choice).

6200-6300rpm? probally needed a service... they generally kick in 6000-6300rpm, 6000rpm most times.

Yes, it was in a very bad condition indeed. Brakes were damaged, actually it had no brakes at all, strange noises from rear to front and from top to the bottom, and more.... The mechanic was  when he realised that the engine oil became like crude oil!!! He told me that the car had to go for service for more than 20000 kms! Pure car :( Sometimes vtec was not kicking at all until I took it for service a week after I bought it. The service cost me $250 :nerv: Then it became a true EK9 :D However vtec was still kicking at 6200-6300. I have a lot of guys in mind whose EK9s also kick between 6200-6300

Yep i was able to shave up almost half second in the 1/8 mile time with the aftermarket ecu :nerv:

LOL, hows the engine now? hope it's not damaged. kicking in later than 6000rpm will definitely affect acceleration times. 5500rpm is best. it gives it time to build power and kick in harder from 5800rpm onwards.

There should be half a cars length by the time you hit 2nd gear if you were racing another ek9. :(

Get an aftermarket ecu or AFC etc. HONDATA is the best aftermarket ecu as the programming is limitless.

I'm running a S-AFC and its by far my WORST mod. I've already created a thread about these aftermarket parts and I explain there what side effects the S-AFC has, at least what I'm experiencing. I also heart others complaining as well. Also because of this, I can't get the full potential of my mods. You can check there if you want :nice: I'm definitely going to replace it with either a Power FC or with an AEM EMS!!!

yeah, power FC would be better... Top range is hondata, especially when fine tuning and extreme mods come in.

Gdluck hey!!

I see below your username you have an E-EK9 and you have put GF-EK9 body parts on? I have the same model too and putting a body kit of the GF model was like a surgery for the car. Man, I had to cut from every single place of the body kit to match :angry2:
