Putting my gearbox back into my car, not sure weather to grease the shaft on which the release bearing slides, box was left in shed for a while and a bit manky so cleaned it, seems a bit rough when slides over and back

Some people say anti seeze on it others say nothing as dirt will stick to it and cause problems

S4C to B18C

Any advice?

I greased mine with high temp grease and when I had the box off again recently all of the carbon from the clutch had stuck to the grease making it pointless

I would say give it a good clean and forget the grease

X2 just clean it up make it nice and you'll be fine.

I say this all the time grease + dirt = grinding paste. You wouldn't put grinding paste on so no need.

Same with brake pads.

Gave it a very thin coat of copper grease, it was really too rough sliding over and back much better now

I'll post back here if I have any problems lol

wow...

You need to put 'high pressure grease'. Putting the wrong grease will make things go bad. One of those very apparently problems is a heavier and unsmooth clutch pedal feel.

If you put the correct grease, a stage 3 clutch kit will give factory weight pedal feel.

I'm putting my box and clutch back on and the manual says that you need to use super high temperature grease

Never even put the engine and box in so might pull apart again and put the recommended grease on in the service manual

Thanks
