Hi Guys,

I bought a 9 a while back and have kept it clean but finally got around to giving in the personal valet that it needed.

When i bought the car the wheels were pretty bad and grimey but i thought i would give it my best shot and bought some "CarPlan Professional Wonder Wheels kit" and as you can see... the results are pretty good (shame they only give you a TINY brush lol:

Before:

After:

They are still pretty bad to be honest and if there is nothing i can do to bring them back to their former glory i was going to just get them refurbished in a trick colour... suggestions?

Cheers!

I use meguires hot wheels it's brilliant stuff mate

Cheers bud,... might pop to halfrauds tomorrow and give it a shot :) will report back!

Dodo juice sipernatural wheel cleaner is where its at tbmfh

billberry wheel cleaner is powerful stuff too. Got alot of built of brake dust and carbon off my old teg alloys.

I have heard great stuff about all Dodo Juice products to be honest... currently trawling through "clean your car" as i know when i get paid i am going to be giving my car a full valet :D Thanks Sammyb

Cheers elchunk... after doing a bit of online reading it appears i may have an "extreme" case of stubborn brake dust and some people have had to take it to a proper car wash and use wheel "acid" or use oven cleaner! hmmm, sceptical... however the option to refurb them in a nice bright, attention catching colour is tempting ;)

those cooker cleaning products are hit and miss, but then again alot of car cleaning products are hit and miss as well. Judging from your pics the build of of dust does look pretty heavy and i would doubt a 1:1 ratio of any cleaning product could lift it? worth a try i suppose before you spend the money to get them refurbed. paint them white or grey imo. but I'm an oem nerd. lol

Your exactly right and its all down to personal preference as some products work better with some people depending on the condition of the work that needs to be done - just dont want to do anymore damage!

I have a feeling i will be able to get a little bit more off but i dont think i will be able to get them sparkling... it doesnt detract anything from the car unless you look closely so the refurb will be at the bottom of the list of things to do... but i am a pretty oem, subtle guy as i am scared to go "wild" as kawasaki green did cross my mind but... if you dont like it... double your money to get it back!

The dust looks pretty well baked on and etched in.

If no wheel cleaners remove it, AG Clean wheels (acid) or Billbary @1:1, then you could try using an heavy duty clay bar, or a product called Iron-X, which will hopefully dissolve the dust.

If not, might be easier to refurb.

rd55 dun - I just did a bit of web searching for "Iron-X" and someone used it on their bumper for rail dust... i believe i have this dust on my rear bumper as it looks like little dots which didnt come off with a normal clean... do you know if i can use this safely for both my wheels and my bumpers??

Yes the iron x will be fine to use on the wheels and bumpers. You will see it change colour as it reacts with the iron/metal. On your rear bumper you could also use a clay bar to remove these iron filings.
