GTM Libra (Honda Engined)

"Well thars yah prablam"
as above, You'd think they'd sleeve the join rather than butt weld them together? if you've done that on a gentle launch then the other side isn't likely to be much stronger.

**** innit

Can't believe it's lasted this long. Didn't have a LSD box before but still...

Looks like I've got more things to work some magic on. Grrr

Simply repairing that isn't going to do, gonna have to improve it considerably for some peace of mind if nothing else

Yeah that's disappointing if that's the original shaft.

Looks the buisness good polish makes the world of difference

More info on that thing of your dads... wtf thing looks bonkers

It's an Ultima Sport they normally have a 5.7 chevy or LS variant, he's fitted a 4.2 Maserati V8 on 50mm BMW M5 throttle bodies, Ferrari plenum, custom exhaust, Ferrari 360 6speed box with torque sensing diff. All running on an Emerald ECU.

He's also messing with another motor which is a 4.7 Maserati V8 from the internals of the later 4.7 quattroporte engine but built based on the 4.2 block so it will still be dry sumped etc. as the 4.7 only came as wet sump.

It's been dyno'd at about 440hp at the crank I think but that was with the variable valve timing not working think it was traced to incorrect wiring on the emerald loom so it should make more power and torque if it was put back on the dyno. Weighs about 1000KG.

Lots of people have built these with daft 600+ HP chevy lumps but I'd much rather something that will take some revs and has bags of useable power. Often turns into top trumps, who has the most power and who has the highest theoretical top speed etc etc.

I was half tempted to turbo the GTM but for the same reasons I think it could ruin the car. Supercharger could be fun though..

Where can I get replacements of these?? Any up rated versions? They are all ******! As well as the drive shaft. Weird.

I'm thinking I should change the outer CV joints too while I'm at it. Don't wanna be doing this again.

A bit confused here as the ones I'm seeing online look different with no square back to them :/ need some help!

Looks like the civic and integra inner ball joints are different, integra ones beeing beefier - see below, this guy had a mixture of civic and integra bits when building a mini converted to Honda power

So it looks like I want a new set of inner integra joints so it'll be much stronger. The only problem is I was due to drop the shafts off to be copied in one piece tomorrow but I'm now worried that if the new joint/tripod arrangement is splined differently to the shafts I have then I've basically got some very expensive driveshaft shaped paper weights. So need to get them first and check they fit the ****** drive shafts I have, then get them made. Argh!!!!

I've never seen a cv like that before. Is it broken?

i have fitted a B16b into a corsa B using the honda box, i rang Drive Shaft Shop in the states and they made up level 2.9 shafts with whatever bar length i wanted, they have loads of different lengths in stock. They are worth a call!

As for the CV bearings, is that one thats broke from the side that the shaft broke?

Sorry I didn't reply

Yeah it's one of the bearings off the inner joints.. Anyway I've got all new ones now and dropped my shafts off today to be copied. Having new ones made from EN24 then heat treated etc as necessary. They will have MGF splines on one end and integra on the other with brand new inner and outer joints. Gonna be a couple of weeks but will be much better when they're done.

Collected and dropped off for heat treating, really pleased with them. The original ones were a bit fatter in the middle as they were sleeved so he's kinda copied it which wasn't really necessary but shouldn't matter. Must be a hell of a lot stronger than the garbage I had previous.

those inner joints look meaty! nice job! who made them for you?

Local firm called northern broaching services, the company my dad works for does their heat treating so I got them "soft" and have dropped them off to be hardened and tempered as didn't want to be paying for that when I can get it done for nothing. Pleased with them.

Just been out for a little test drive and all seems OK. Didn't go far just wanted to have a little run out, spin it up a few times etc then check over on the drive again. Still needs tracking up properly but by some fluke I think I've got it near enough right, seems to track straight enough and the rack has made the steering much quicker with so much more feel, slightly heavier steering being the trade off but completely worth it.

Just need to build my confidence up now with the car and taking it on longer drives
