Hello people. I am looking to purchase a helmet for track days. I have set myself a budget of no more than £150. But I have no idea where to begin looking for them or what to look for! I had a quick search on demon tweeks and I see the prices vary incredibly. Does anybody have any tips on what to look out for or what sites I should be looking at? Or even if I should be looking for an open face or closed face helmet!!!

I'm pretty sure helmets used on track days have to be Snell approved. Don't think it matters whether it's open face or not. Not much help, sorry!

You don't need anything fancy for track days, best to go to a local motorbike shop to test fit one first for size. Most people I know use a standard closed helmet, some tracks do allow open face, but not sure they all do.

Most folk I know just use crosser helmets for track days then just unscrew the peak from it. Thats what I did when I went out in my mate's car at knockhill

Get a open face if I was you because in the summer you be Abit hot with a full face one. I got both in matt grey

any open, closed helmet does for track days has to be approved for racing only

The V2 looks a good choice. Similar sort of thing to my Hedtec rapido.

Not sure if it's any different in Eire but in the UK the TROs generally seem to say the helmet has to be BSI/Snell approved but doesn't need to be fireproof.
But one thing I would consider is whether you can get your sunglasses on underneath it. My OMP Veloce (I used to use for trackdays) had space in the side padding so you could wear glasses but my racing helmet doesn't. Not too much of an issue as the times for races/qually the sun tends to be high enough in the sky not to cause problems but with trackdays in the spring/autumn you can be driving into the sun at the start and end of the day.

do they check your helmets on trackday?

At Knockhill they dont.

To original OP, whatever your budget make sure it fits properly and its comfy. Theres nothing worse than wearing a crash hat that digs in etc. For example, the Simpson helmet that looks like the Stig doesnt fit my head very well (it was the correct size) after 10mins my head was hurting and i wanted it off.

My current lid, i could wear all day though.

I've also got a V2 the Elite one with the duckbill as I run without roof or screen. It keeps the helmet down and doesn't want to rip your face off. Excellent design and suitable for racing if you end up going that far.
Get a Snell approved one, as you know it's a decent standard then.
