Help choosing turbo parts

Going back to the td05, does anyone know the difference between the 16g and 20g?

I've also noticed Borg Warner turbos at slightly more reasonable prices, I've heard that they spool quite loudly though,

I don't know much about their reliability or if they even produce a turbo that's suited to a b16/18?

20g has a larger compressor wheel, 68mm I believe

there are a few different sized 16g compressor wheel turbos as well depending what car/year theyre off

the borg warner EFR range would be where id look for a turbo, sees very good results for size across the range

the MHI tdo5 range of tubos are excellent choice for budget builds, can be had for peanuts usually

nice little video from borg warner, i was sold soon as i saw the eg civics :))

I run a race-tech kit on my build and as @b16 mini says I run a TD05, mines a bit special though with a modified compressor wheel which is slightly bigger than a 20G. No problems with spool and doesn't run out of puff high up the Rev range (revving to 8700rpm).

I haven't got a bad word to say about my kit, had it on 8 months so far and done 2 track days and had zero problems.

Just about to fit my bigger injectors and nail 500 lol.

good to hear, did you get the kit put on and tuned at racetech or did someone else tune it?

The efr range seem pretty seriously expensive!
yeah not the cheapest, serious bits of kit though, designed from the ground up for performance

but just spend as much as you want or can afford to on turbo parts, youll still make good power with a td05 and have a very enjoyable car :)

horses for courses, the race-tech kits look very good for the money

I bought the kit off them, took it home and fitted it, then took the car back to them for mapping. I'm bit anal with stuff like this and would rather do it myself.

Your not going to see the benefit to make it worth the cost of an EFR in a street car imo.
I think we need to know a budget really. This has gone from basic to most advance turbos on the market. Clearly cost will be an issue

Just go full ram and gtx35

Like @jesse888 says mate it all comes down to budget. My advice is get everything before you start putting it all together and budget at least a grand (absolute minimum) for ecu and tuning.

Check out my build thread to see how not to do it :))

Also, I'd say whatever your budget is.....add a little on because if you're anything like me and probably the rest of the lads you always overspend lol!

Definitely going to overspend, definitely going to want more power sometime afterwards.
The joy of boost is its adjustable, want traction for windy roads? Low boost. Want to blow off that ferrari on the motorway? That'll be high boost then...
Even basic engine management has atleast a switch for a high/low system. Go boost controller like mine and have 3 settings. Go standalone and have like 8 lol

I was lucky in that sense.... if I went for more power it was detrimental for the cars purpose.
If I had kept it on the road there would have been a happy switch:drive:

Yeah I've managed to keep the boost low on track so far but I know its coming!

I have goals I want to reach without more boost first.
Soon as they are reached I'll set up the boost by gear and make new goals lol

dont really want to spend more than 3k all in

what management is best for boost by gear?

went boom did it? what happend? il check the thread out yeah
