Im stuck on my rebuild, i cant accuratley measure the crank journals and havent got a clue in how to spec them up for either crank (b18c or b20).
Im located in the bb9 area if anybody is up for helping me, i am stretched with my budget on this build but can pay you for your expenses if feasable,
CALL KESSER 07532462391 PLEASE SOMEBODY!

Yes i will be doing, but i dont knw how to use it and have seen it being done aswell thats why im stuck..i need somebody with me to help me otherwise im gonna have to mix match bearings with different caps crank etc, and i really dont wanto do that

Just follow the instructions. Honestly, it's not hard to use at all. Just make sure you use the correct grease.

Iv seen some platigauges on ebay but which do i need, green, blue, red? And grease? Does that come with it or something?

You need red (providing you're buying from a UK supplier). Read the instructions. It will tell you what grease you need. DO NOT check without grease if it says you need it.

This link asks me for a google sign in for some reason...
Anyway, i place the bearings (top and bottom) in position with or without grease and place a strip inbetween the bearings and journals and torque down to spec,
Then remove and match with the strip indicator right?
How do i kniw what clearance i need for my build? And can you only buy different thickness bearings from honda because other manufactures like acl, kings etc only sell a set and dont specify the sizes?

Yeah.

Anything around 0.002 is fine. Providing your old bearings are in good condition you can check with them.

I have taken pictures of my cranks and cant decipher the codes (my head is spinning and very tired), this is becoming a nightmare build, aaarrrrggggg!!! I will try and put them on with my fone later on..
thanks for your info rich7777 but do you know any place where I can take the things and get the bearings worked out for me?

I haven't got a clue where you are. Also, most people won't take a job on like this. They'll be wanting to build the bottom end (which would be the option I'd recommend). Try a set of ACL bearings and go from there. It sounds like the OEM route will be a bit of a pain for you.

Im located in lancashire btw..
Yeah iv ordered a couple of plastigauge sets and will check with existing bearings and if im in the middle kind of range il get some acls and recheck..iv got pics of crank codes but you wont be able to read it and i dont knw how to put pics up because im using a fone, if i have access to a pc then il put them up..

finally I think I have gotten somewhere with this bearing malarkey...

Main Bearings-
the LETTER codes stamped on the b20 block are as follows (t/belt to flywheel):
C D C C D

now the corresponding NUMBER codes on the crank are (t/belt to flywheel):
2 2 3 2 2

which equals GREEN BROWN BROWN GREEN BROWN when using the main bearing code selection section of the maintenance manual for the b20.

Rod Bearings-
the NUMBER codes stamped on the b20 rods are as follows (t/belt to flywheel):
2 2 2 3

now the corresponding LETTER codes on the crank are (t/belt to flywheel):
C C B C

which equals GREEN GREEN YELLOW BROWN.

Now from this iv learnt that this engine had 7 out of 9 bearings that were not matched up to the crank/block and rods.

anyway, as far as I know you can go to the next colour but not jump over it so I am in the middle range.

Now when ACL and King etc. quote standard size, do they mean GREEN which is in the centre of the colour chart? I really need to know otherwise OEM Honda will cost me around £575.00 and that's a NO NO..

Rich777 please read and advise

Try the ACL's and see what they come out at. You should be fine. You can find them on eBay.

P.S. Clevite also make nice bearings which you could try.

If any of the journals are slightly tight, then you can get the crank polished.

Yeah, iv got two sets of red plastigauges through post today and have ordered king main and rod bearings from america so while i wait i better get onto portpolishing and balancing combustion chambers and plastigauge the cam/caps because iv a couple of b16 donors.
Thanks for your help rich7777, i will need your help on a catch can setup soon after the engine work is done.

Gulp, King are the worst bearings to use. You need to make sure you don't leave a spec of dirt inside the engine. They are VERY hard bearing, and won't absorb foreign particles like conventional tri-metal bearings.

I wish id known that earlier, id have to just chance it bcos my budget is stretched now...how long do they last for street cars similar b20 builds? I will be getting a full balance to so should help.
