Hey all, so I have been a member here for a little while and I browse the forums regularly but never made a post. I figured I would ask this question here since I've been having a hard time with this, I'm trying my luck on my different forums now.

Anyways, when my engine is warm and only at idle it starts to make this high pitch whistling/squeaking noise, it seems to be coming from the alternator area but it also resonates in the engine bay and can sound like its coming from different places.

I know that it's not the alt belt, ps belt, timing belt tensioner, intake, or any hose on the intake manifold.

Heres a video to see what it sounds like. You can hear it really well towards the end.

Any input is appreciated!

is a special tool like the doctors headrings or use a screw driver and try to hear from were the sound comes.

i think is something loose

Well I did listen for the noise, it's pretty much from the alternator area, and I even ran the engine with the alt belt off.

What else is back there?

it sounds nearly like 2 pieces of metal are touching , like off the alternator adjustment bracket or off the strut brace causing a high pitch ringing...

Did you do anything recently like a service?

Well I did run the engine for a bit with the alt belt off, so i dont think its that.

What I first gotta figure out is if it's a air leak, or bad bearings or metal rubbing.

nothing that moves is touching the strut bar. This actually happened after i got my timing belt/water pump changed. But I took it back to the guy and he re did the job with new parts and nothing changed.

arggg, so frustrating!

check the air con pump the clutch on it prob came loose take belt off and hold your hand on the air con pully see if it is rattling up and down

Well I don't have a/c.

Is it possible that it's the intake manifold gasket or something? has a leak?

No wasnt saying it was the alternator bearing as you said you took it off but 2 pieces of metal vibrating together in that area...

Well seeing it happened after the t/b was done id say the belt could be over tensioned and as the head/block expand its putting strain on a bearing/journal ,
could say the same for the alt/ ps but you said you removed the belts...

timing belt too tight, cam journals on belt end grinding at idle when theres less oil pressure. Not good. Get the belt tensioned properly.

Hmm, I'll check the ps fluid. But wouldn't it only make a noise when I turn?

Ok, well I'll try adding some as soon as I can then. That would be quite a simple fix! But I have a feeling it may be something else. Wouldn't hurt to try tho.

Hey did you ever figure out what was making the high pitch noise? sounds exactly like what my h22 is doing,, almost identical. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you figure out what the noise is? I just put a jdm engine from eBay in my Honda Accord and same noise... It's not a.belt, and happens once car is warm and only at idle.

i had a similar noise the last week and my engineer adviced to make 1 test, to press the clutch and check if it stops, and when i pressed it stopped this noise so it was the bearing from the clutch, i just left it like cz he adviced me not to waste money just to grease this a little :)
