B16 with a B20 bottom end. I think I overfilled her with oil, now this. Do I need to replace the whole engine or can it be fixed?

Time for a rebuild. Sounds like a rod has gone.

New Crank
New Rod

In saying this I spun a rod bearing in my B16 that is still in the car. Swapped the bearing out and put a new one it. It still has the issue but I am building a B18c so didn't want to strip it down.

Easy way, another bottom end and your head should be fine. Pull the pan and see how much damage is in there

Thank you for the reply. She started burning oil before this happened, do you think that means I'll need to change more than just the bottom end?

Yeah that's usually what happens, starts to excessively use up oil. A completely rebuilt or new bottom end should do the trick as that's where your issue lies. While the engine is out though, you're best to clean up the head internals as it could have metal bits going around in there.

Like the other guy said, clean the head out.

As for the crank, you could try the Japan auctions and pick a used one up, but shipping would be a killer.

You might be able to find a crank from a Honda breakers or auction sites. A lot of breakers are on Facebook Honda parts pages now, and there's cars being broken for parts every day.

If I was you I would just grab another B20 bottom end and rebuild it with all oem bearings.

For some reason I was under the assumption you had a B16B.

Will you be doing the work or paying a shop?

Have you checked that the spark plugs are tight? I had a similar noise before and it was just a spark plug that had worked it's way loose, bouncing up and down in the hole.

Might be worth checking as that's a super cheap fix!

It 100% rod knock. I have this in B16a but I am building a B18c and then I will fix it. The sound is from the big end hitting the crank and if left too long will tap the head.
