Idle Problem, IACV Faulty?

Just want to thank you again mate for when you helped me with my idle problem a while back :)
awesome guy here !!

my car is always idling at over 1,000 rpm. would this be the cause of that prob?

How much over 1k rpm? If there is something on causing a electrical load then the idle will be higher. Also the tachometers read a little high from what I have seen.

Sorry to jump in..

Hey guys.. need your help.. I got an ek4 b16a2 1998 model.. with itr internal, ctr ecu, skunk2 plenum/intake manifold and itr tb..etc..

i used to have idle problem: fluctuating 900-1500 at idle and if you turn ac idle drops to 400-700 and it went back again to 1100-1500 give and take...

and now my car is stalling during warming up - idle speed is dropping to 100-300 from 1300-1500.. and car is dead... had to turn the ignition on again 1 or 2x.. and then its running ok..

my question is... is the iacv causing this?? and also the fitv?? btw the idle is always trying to pinpoint the right frequency.. hence the fluctuation..

was just thinking.. is the ITR 98+ spec IACV & FITV is interchangeable to ek4? is there any benefit?? just curious :) thx guys :)

If it has a fitv then try removing it and cleaning out with carb cleaner

Did you know, you can set these up?

1: bridge the 2 pin blue plug behind glove box (the diagnostic plug)run engine to as closes as possile to 500 rpm on idle (no load) by adjusting the butterfly.

2: turn off engine un plug idle control valve

3: with ingnition off remove the 7.5 amp back up fuse for ten seconds

4: plug idle control valve back in

5: repace 7.5 amp back up fuse

6: the idle control valve is now reset

Hope this becomes of some use :)

Think you have that a little mixed up mate, you bridge diagnostic plug and then disconnect IACV plug and set base idle to ~550rpm while its running, if you don't disconnect IACV it will be idling around 7-800rpm before you ever adjust the base idle. On oem throttle bodies its very rare to need to alter the factory setting on the base idle screw:nice:

Clean the TB and IACV, maybe it'll help.

Check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold

Today i took my intake off the throttle body and i blocked the bottom hole were theres vacum when i did that the car idle perfect why is that??

Most likely you have a vac leak. Spray some carb cleaner around where TB meets I.M while car is running and see does any spray get sucked in, if it does then you will need to replace TB gasket, there cheap anyway so worth doing. Does your engine have a FITV on TB? Or just the IACV?

i have the same sort of propblem but i have a ej9 could this be the same thing that is wrong with mine

High idle? Normally would be caused by a vacuum leak yes or faulty IACV flowing to much air.

the idle still high even after i had clean the IACV, and I need to restart the car once the temperature had warm up to get the right idle speed.... anyone know why??

I hope cleaning my IACV fixes my idle problem too. My B16 idles at around 200 rpm. Damn!

Useful info - thanks for posting. Just used the car after a few weeks sitting in the garage, and once it had warmed up it wouldn't idle - idle was only about 200rpm, and the engine kept cutting out, though when cold the idle wasn't as steady as normal, and if I held the revs at 1500 when it was warm, again the revs would climb and drop slightly. Car was only serviced 1st April as well :(. Will try cleaning the IACV as per above, and will report on whether it works.

Out of interest though - does anyone have the part number for the seal shown in the 3rd photo?

36450-P6-S01
IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE

Is this the same part on both the Civic Type R and the Integra Type R?
