Hi my friends from EK9.org, I am Richard from Hong Kong. I have an 1997 EK9, and I am pretty sure the ex-owner had some modified brakes on it but someone replaced them with junkyard stock settings. The brakes were shaky, and the calipers look rather rusty. I came accross a pair of 17CL15VN calipers from a CG1 Accord 3.0, and I thought the calipers were completely identical due to the identical mark 17CL15VN. So I went ahead and rebuilt those calipers. Everything about CTR and ITR is expensive nowadays, so I thought the Accord caliper could save me a few bucks.
I bought the rebuild kit for Honda Accord CG5, which uses the 17CL14VN calipers. 17CL refers to the piston size, and since the rebuild kit is mainly about pistons, technically you can use the caliper rebuild kit for any cars using 17CLXXVN calipers. Luckily, I confirmed my theory. The part number for Accord CG5 is 01463-SM4-000.
After rebuilding the calipers, I sprayed them with VHT paints to make it look better.
I also bought some brake discs, little Phillip Head Screws, ERGO thread locker, anti-seize and some motul dot.4 brake fluids.
After removing the old bracket from my EK9, I discovered that the width of the base pad where the bolt sits in is different. The difference is around 3mm and you can use a stainless steel non-crushable spacer to make up the difference. If you don't use the spacer, you caliper is going to be skewed inward and the bracket will scratch the brake disc. Honda will always remind the difference between Accord and EK9 in ways you do not expect!
Perfectly functional and the brake disc sits right in the middle of the bracket after applying the spacer.
Conclusion:
Accord CG1 3.0 front single piston calipers with 17CL15VN markings are 100% interchangeable with EK9/DC2's OEM caliper. But you need 3mm non crushable stainless steel spacers.
