Completely new to this so bear with me!!... Im hoping to invest in a 01/02 DC5 in the coming wks only problem is insurance.. (im 22, full licence over 3 yrs).. For almost two years Ive being under my dads name on his avensis (ewhhh), but before this I had a toyota glanza(turbo) which was my own policy for 2 years...

Only catch is It was broken in to (there wasnt much to repair) and as I was insured with Axa at the time I made a theft claim (THEFT CLAIMS DO NOT AFFECT NO CLAIMS BONUS WITH AXA therefore I HAVE RETAINED THESE)... I did ring one insurance company and explain it to them but he was like No you've none so thats zero!!!

Anywhoo Insurance companies are not being very helpful at all...But in the last couple of days Axa have sent out a letter stating I have 2 yrs NCB (which might help me).. Ive tried Quinn, FBD, AA and Aviva (all online quotations) and they wont quote me on a DC5.. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!! :please:

Before you get the dc5 insure another car and then when you buy it jus ring up and say you want to switch over the insurance to the d5! They have to switch you over! I got my ek9 when i was 19 and i rand round but noone would quote me but i jus switched over from my previous car and it was grand. got it for 1800e at the time

Thats the only way they'll insure you. Be prepared to pay a few quid though

As above thats what i did when i was 19 and bought my ek9! Got insured on a 1.3 lancer glx and then rang the next day saying it broke down and i have a new car! I had to pay 700euro premium but its expected! Theres always ways to get insured!!

you have to ring to get quotes on performance cars like evo's, type r's etc, they dont give quotes on these cars via on line...

Yeah Im thinking of ringing around, although might go to an agent an let them do the ringing and hopefully they will find someone that will insure me and at the best price.. Is that a good idea though??

If that doesnt work I'll take your advise guys on insuring maybe dads avensis(seeing as the policy which im under his name is up in Oct)...

Ring yourself! Dont bother going with an agency, just try yourself theres onl a few companies that will insure japanese cars! Quinn are the most likely to insure you! If i was you i would just get insured on any average car like your dads and then swap over!

It was actually Quinn that i tried online and couldnt get a quote, thats why im kind of afraid to ring now ha...I supose if I dont ring I def wont get a quote...

Just got off the phone with my BF and he informed me his insurance is up soon on his ek9... Its hard to know if I would be better taking out my own policy on his car than a 2.0L (diesel) avensis....

Ye but no one ever gets a quote online! Trust me its never works on any sort of high powered car! Just ring and see what they say but im nearly 100% sure you will have to insure something small and then swap over!

You thinking of getting a quote on your bf`s ek9? That will be just as hard! Go with the avensis! Or even if any of your mates drive small cars somthing like a 1.4 - 1.6 just get insured on that first!

None of them will quote you first off thats why you have to do it the way we said! I rang jus to see about quotes on my ek9 and 7 insurance companies told me they could not insure me! when i got my ek9 i transferred my insurance over from my 1.4 golf and they did it no problem....just had to pay 750e extra

right, first off what the lads are sayin is 100%. my missus works for Aviva an this is how she deals with customers with performance cars.

there are a few options:
1. she cannot quote performance as new business. if u want to get insured on a DC5/EK9 then ur better off having a shitbox to get insured on first, after a couple of days give them a shout back and say you've bought another car n you'd like to transfer the insurance.

2. you can get insured on a 1l micra, etc. and register the DC5 in ur mothers/fathers name. this means you can use your third party extension to cover the car but on third party. car only needs to be in someone elses name, have road tax and NCT.

3. if its new business you can drop into insurance places to get a quote. if they will not give you a quote you can ask for a declination letter. once you have 3 of these letters you can go to the IIF(irish insurance federation) and they will get u a quote.

if u need anythin else just ask. if u want her direct number in work pm me. i dont know where ur based but she's in west Dublin so if ur near u could drop in.

hope this helps

Ok thats def narrowed it down for me.. Thanks a mill... My boyfriends ek9 is insured as a jordan so im guessing its easier to insure them?? Im near Mulingar, im a bit away from dublin but if you could p.m her work number I will ring her soon when I decide exactly what to do!! :thanks:

Could you p.m me her work number please? I tried to p.m you directly but it wont let me! I wouldnt be able to drop in because im a good bit away but would be happy to ring for a quote :)

if its insured as a jordan it would be easyer ,, but quinn have a system now that once you tell them the reg plate number it will come up on there system as type-R civic not a jordan ,,, if you cant get a quote of them or anyone else try XS DIRECT they will quote you but you will have to pay an excess if you ever have an accident .

Howya. I'm having exactly the same prob..no quotes, and the ones i have got are mental..Have been pulling my hair out trying to get insurance.. It seems like none of the insurance companies want to touch a DC5! I was quoted on a DC2 with chill.ie for 3000, as with all of them they don't have a DC5 on their 'system'! I'm 23, 3 yrs ncb.. It's rough!

Saw this thread and in particular this message.. I would def consider doing one of the above esp since I already have a smaller car and have extension to drive other cars on it..my question is, if i total my car (not registered in my name, i.e. the DC5 but bought with my money) or someone elses car and the insurance company realise i've been driving it under extension for the past 9 months, what happens as far as they're concerned, am I covered still or not!!?? I mean forking out half of what the car is worth is mad..when i first started driving i shelled out 2300 notes, don't want to go back there!! Appreciate any help/input anyone can give, esp if you've been in this situation!
PS - Sorry to hijack the thread, but seeing as we're in the same boat we might get somewhere if we put heads together!!

lads if yas are really stuck u must remember that if u have another car like a starlet insured with Quinn insurance and u have a full lisence and your dc5 or ek9 has nct and tax!!!!! your 3rd parti insurance covers u in the performance car simple !!!!!!! :))

Hey mate, have you tried elephant? I changed from a Vxr corsa to a dc5 and it cost me 1200 fully comp. With the 3rd party cover does the car not need to be insured??

Could you p.m me her work number please? I tried to p.m you directly but it wont let me! I wouldnt be able to drop in because im a good bit away but would be happy to ring for a quote :)

sorry only seein this now. did u get sorted?
