Is k20ing an ek9 wrong?

Hi guys after owning my ek9 for nearly 5 years and a few track days I'm after some power' (the up hill section on the Nurburgring was a real turning point lol.) After much thought I have also went ahead and bought a k20a and gearbox out of a DC5. My question is " is it wrong to k20 an ek9 ?" every time I ask my friends ect they say it's a shame! Mainly due to the rarity of our type r's and the fact they're raising in price being original. (they wouldn't mind if I k20'd a normal civic) I totally understand where people come from when saying this. Because I'm now in two minds my self. I'm not really interested in a turbo or boost because I love n/a. The engine I have bought is also 270 bhp naturally aspirated and it also has a spoon 5.1 final drive so I assume it's going to absolutely fly. Would just like to ask if any of you have regretted it? Or had these mixed emotions? It's getting closer to throwing the b series out and I don't know how I feel about it. Sorry if it's dumb/been covered/ or wrong section. Would just like a few peoples opinions.

Thanks
Ash

If you think it's wrong why not drop it into an ek4 or any other EK instead ?

Good question. I have tried to sell this car twice and have always gone against it' nothing beats the feel of this raw chassis to me, I've drove other jordans ect and they really didn't feel anything alike. Granted spend the money on them they can but I love the feel of my car

Nah ! its what you want from a car that matters most ,
And putting a k20 into a ek9 will only enhance its performance ,
You could store the b16 and when it comes to selling convert back ?
Take note of engine miles and time stops for better selling point , just turn it over by hand every now and again with a bit of oil in spark plug hole .
But back to you question , imo I think there is nothing wrong about it at all .
If the k20 was available when the 9 was produced I'd say that's what would of went into it from the beginning .

Probably not gonna be able to afford to keep it :/ I'm only subframe and manifold in parts into the swap, an I get what you mean! More than likely gonna go ahead with it

took the b16a out my sir-s few months back and put in a c4, plans were to turbo it. The car never left the driveway and i hated looking at it knowing it was no longer original so the b16a's going back in and just bought another eg to engine swap

imo rare cars are worth more as original and if wanting something to hoon about in just build a standard model

ive realised i need 3 different cars in my life, a good mpg daily driver, a rare original and something fast which you aren't going to be devastated about if it ends up damaged

I personally don't think the value of a average condition standard or modified ek9 is ever going to be substantially huge, at least not for quite a while even if it is completely original,

Only the real immaculate original low mileage cars will ever be worth the big money.

I don't understand how anyone can say it's a shame to change something like an engine that can easily be changed back

Do the swap and enjoy the car how you want it,

Really appreciate the replies. Mixed opinions like my friends lol. I think I'm going to go ahead with it... and if I do feel like returning b series one day (should there be an engine available) it would only be a 16b or 18c I suppose!

If your car is seriously clean and original I'd say it would be a shame, especially splitting the original engine from the car would detract a lot of the value to a potential colllector buyer in the future. Having said that I'm completely butchering my car - I got it as a bare shell which did require welding, now it has holes drilled in it and brackets cut out etc so there's no coming back. But I'm not planning on ever selling the car so its value is not really that important to me.

I agree guys! And beiber says yolo loll ! Update: there's no going back that's the b16b deposit received :nerv:

I speak from the POV of someone who has a rarer and much more valuable car with a k20 shoehorned into it. I would pay hard hard currency to have the original engine and ancills sat in dry storage.

In my opinion the k series is charmless (if powerful) compared to a b series. The b18c being the best of the lot, so that would be my move. The 16b is a special engine though, destroked for the 1.6 race series that the car was designed to be in. Taking one out and not keeping it is a total crime. Dont sell the engine!!

Fitting a k20 to the ek chassis doesn't require any cutting, simple bolt in so nothing you can can't be reversed!! Put the b16b and s4c in storage for a later day and fit the k series!
