Ek9
has anyone used individual throttle body's on a B16b , if so what sort of bhp would I be looking at on my ek9 ,if I put itb and a full exhaust with air filter ? Thanks in advance

ITB's won't add power

I have added ITB's to a k20 which generally responds better to modifications than a B16

What you should gain is a bit of mid range torque and better throttle response. Ideally a bump in compression, bigger Cams and valvetrain will help

Sizing the ITB's can be very important and if they are too small you can loose power up top over a manifold and single throttle body

If it's power your looking for and your not willing to spend a lot of money then my advice is to stay away from ITB's

Ah ok mate thanks for the help , just looking at Ideas to give my ek9 a bit more power I've just had it dyno at 192bhp just seeing if I can push her that bit more if you know anything else that would help ?

Your not going to get big gains without going forced induction

Without touching the bottom end you could try a mild set of Cams, but it's going to be a lot of money for little gains

Imo the best bolt on breathing mods for a B-series are Mugen/tegiwa Mugen rep Intake, toda/tegiwa toda rep exhaust manifold and a good flowing 2.5" exhaust along with a good tune

Cheers I've got a full spoon n1 system maybe just go mad and turbo it

Id buy itbs for the sound alone tbh, a bseries on bodies sounds glorious!
if you want power you can boost your b16b but youll be smart to stay around 280hp or less.

I'll look into it properly in the winter , when I've put her in storage , a turbo is very convincing tbh I wouldn't want to run more than 280 that would just be ridiculous

The power is very linear so you may be surprised its not as rediculous as it may sound.

When you first go boost you think it's the fastest car in the world, 3 months later you want more power:D.

Haha sounds like I've got it all to discover, I'll put a thread up in the winter , when I've got a plan and go ahead with it

I'm doing the same this winter, engines coming apart for a rebuild, head skim, high comp pistons, big cams, and hopefully jenvey ITB's if I can afford them. Still undecided if I should take the plunge and stroke it too...:blinx:

Then its just getting it all set up and mapped properly - from what I've read they can be a bitch to set properly and if you get it wrong you end up losing power.

Still, as above will all be worth it just for the noise! :naughty:

Id defo stroke it, no replacement for displacement as they say....

With regards to setting up itbs, ive heard they are a pain to tune but its also in the length of the itbs and the width.
It needs to match the resonance of the rpm range you want to gain most from.
Its all clever stuff and way over my head for the moment atleast.

I think ITB's will only ever work in terms of power if you can afford to rev the engine harder....the rest of it is just noise & throttle response

I have experience on a 16v Golf. The ITB's sound beautiful & improve the inlet side so much- however you need to consider inlet/exhaust as a whole along with upping CR & cams to suit. Add to that a built bottom end to allow it to rev harder...

Even on stock injection my old ITR with a map made peak @ 8300 (up from 8000) with just bolt-ons & revved to a true 8700. I wouldn't want to push it harder tbh
