JDM Quartet. Y56 EK9, B18C EG6 SiR2, K20 96 DC2, Red 96 DC2

Great to meet you earlier Sam, its a small world!
Looking forward to seeing the EK9 progress
You too mate. It is indeed!
Fingers crossed it'll not be too much longer before I can start getting somewhere with it.

If you find you don't get a chance - I know of a nice silver shed that could be reshelled ;-)

EG6 still away at the body shop, hopes of taking it to Cadwell next month are slipping away with each day but I suppose as long as the final result is good thats all that matters!

Received some goodies in the past week:

New set of Enkei RPF1s in 16x8 ET38 courtesy of Mr Ivell at 6two1.
Wiseco pistons in 12.5:1 0.5 oversized. Received the block back from the machinist along with the pistons this morning following a re-bore to suit. They've also set the piston to wall clearance for me so that's one less thing to worry about when it's assembled.

I'm just waiting on the delivery of my new cams and valve springs (BC Stage 3 and appropriate springs/ti retainers) and valves prior to assembly.

The white DC2 also saw some love recently too!
Renewed oil and filter, rear brake pads, brake fluid flush, new A048s and a replacement exhaust all sorted before a last minute trip out to Oulton park on the 27th. The car performed impeccably, definitely humoured my skills after a year and a bit away from some fast driving.

Hoping its only a couple of weeks before the EG6 can be buttoned up and booked in for mapping, at which point my focus can turn to getting the red DC2 stripped down and ready to be sent away for paint.

Nice!

Either my EJ or my kitcar have a trackday booked for 12th July at Croft. My first in a couple of years!

Sourced some oem 96 wheels for the red dc2. Couldn’t resist popping them on and giving it a quick spray down while I was de-greasing the bay this evening. It looks a million times better just for being off the horrid gold wheels.

Another outing! Nearly two years since we’ve been back to Cadwell. Had a mad rush getting these three ready for the day, all performed superbly.

DC2 is phenomenal at the minute. With an eyeballed alignment it managed a 1:41.8 in the afternoon. I say “it” because it definitely humours my driving

Despite my best efforts to do so, I missed the opportunity to take the EG6 to Mimms on sunday with a misfire just creeping in at 11;45pm Saturday night to dash my hopes.

That said, we did only collect the car on Wednesday from paint and got this far with it by Saturday evening, so I'll take it as a fair achievement!

Collected the car Wednesday last week:

Straight into the workshop on return.
We'd already prepped the B18C with a new timing belt, water pump, tensioner and oil/filter before hand.

Followed by all the necessary brake lines, brake servo, cylinder (clutch and brake) and bias valve.
Fuel filter bracket and lines on too.

Brakes test fitted, all good.

EG6 4.jpg

Refurbished cam cover fitted, along with an ITR DC2 airbox and intake tube.
Then it was panels/body associated parts.

I think the back end of an EG is the best part of them, such an iconic look!

Interior comprises of the original SiR2 purple tweed fold flat rear interior with DC2 SR3 Recaros up front.
Personal Neo Grinta steering wheel, Spoon delrin gear knob and SIR clocks.

Well.. excitement short lived with the EG6 with lots of faults finding their way through the paint after just 5 weeks. Gutted is an understatement. Rust appearing on the N/S/R arch, moisture coming through on the quarters and bubbling/rust/crazing appearing everywhere. Going back in soon to be re-done with another shop pending a refund from the bloke that did it.

Gutted in honesty, but life goes on. Here’s a few shots from the track day/workshop over the last month.

The EK9 shell has sold.
I'm hoping to buy a complete example next year all being well, I just cant commit the time and expense that the Yellow shell needed.

I have now ordered the following for the EG6s built B18C which means its edging ever closer to completion:
- Brian Crower BC0013 Stage 3 N/A spec camshafts
- Brian Crower BC0010s valve springs and steel retainers.

I opted for steel retainers for longevity between inspections. It's been noted by a few that titanium retainers should be subject to inspection and/or replacement every so often. Deemed a consumable in a race engine apparently and my wallet doesnt like the sound of that!

Supertech flatface valves, ACL conrod/main/thrust bearings and ferrea valve guides to sort next and thats just about everything needed to start initial assembly to check P2V and V2V clearances before final assembly and cam timing/degree.

be nice to see the engine done an in the eg :)

Managed to chip away at the list of jobs needed to get the red DC2 in for paint.

- Front end panels/bumper/lights removed to assess front panel and inner wing condition, pleasantly surprised with no horrors to report. Very clean.
- Corrosion around the rear vent cut out and replaced with fresh metal. Just needs grinding back, priming and seam sealing.
- Most of the interiors out now, roof lining, dash, carpet and door cards left to remove.
