Jesse888 Forged/stroker turbo ek9

Was brand new, zero miles on it. The issue is likely a clearance one tbh.
Agreed a thicker oil is a band aid at best but I'll see how it goes for a while, I think it'll run fine as it is but I'd like alittle more pressure on idle really.

Worth noting I've the take off for the pressure line to a sandwhich plate and I'm now running the temp in the sump.
No coolers on this engine at all ATM(removed oem water2oil) I've got a mocal 25row to go on.
Im hoping it's something simple like the gasket on the oil pickup but I'd expect to see issues with pressure on more than just idle.

How'd that oil pressure hold up after japfest track time?

Was fine, max temp was 112 and after a very slow cool down lap I was at 90c in the pitlane.
No adverse effects yet.
Had a weird hesitation towards the end of the session 6k in 4th. I think it was low fuel though we'll find out at the ring I suppose

Japfest pictures for those that haven't caught the japfest thread.

Side by side with Nicole's wagon.
She takes a better picture than me so silly not too

Fk2 vs Ek9 was fun

Afew pictures from saqib on the ek9.org stand

Ordered a fresh pair of 225/45/16 dz03g for the Nurburgring trip.

that pic with Nicoles is awesome

Yeah we thought so too. This is fresh off the track session, was getting quiet so perfect chance for some decent shots of the pair.
For cars that are so similar they are very different lol

So not a lot going on since japfest, just prep for Nurburgring really.
Got my tyres fitted to the rims and sorted my tool box.
Good news on the engine front!
Changed the oil filter today and this is the result

Hard to see but there's nothing in the oil.....
This filter was on the engine from 250miles to the current 600miles and that included 15mins tracktime so to see such clean oil out of it is very promising!
So finally some good news from this car!
Quietly confident that this engine will go to the ring and back with little issue but we shall see.

Excitement kicked in yo!!
I'll try and keep you guys posted with how it's doing but I'll most likely just post the odd pic on Instagram etc
I get back late Tuesday and with some luck I'll have some videos/photos for you all Weds.

How many oil changes have you done this year lol

How many oil changes have you done this year lol

I couldn't even tell you mate, must be a good 3-4 per engine. 4 engines(excluding original one) so a good 12 lol

You guys speak too soon lol
Got all the way here super smooth, not one issue.
Get too the track(brand new 225/45/16s on the front) went to pull out of the car park to do my first lap and the front tyre has managed to catch the threads that stick out of my boost pipe clamps from the intercooler(never happened before with same sized tyres but with less tread...
This caused the tyres to pull the whole boost pipe assembly down and widge it against my brake cylinder stopper.
Also did a number on a brand new (£155) Dunlop semi slick!

Lucky a nice Spanish fella was on hand to 1. Help me find out what the **** happened
2. Lend me a 13mm spanner to sort that **** out lol
Meant I missed my chance to grab a lap yesterday evening which was gutting but it happens. So we grabbed some pizza and then got the car home and set about making sure all the small niggles where sorted.
We cable tied the boost pipe up and away as far as possible from the tyre and turned the boost clamps around so that te threads aren't pointing to the tyre anymore. Raised the suspension to help clear the arches abit more, lowered splitter tiny amount aswell.
Basically we worked on the car till 10:30 last night so that I can get up today and just go smash some lappage(with luck)
Engine is running like a peach, only concern I have is a slight hesitation I had on the motorway while having alittle 5th gear drag with my buddies evo. Will see what happens with that but mechanically it's been sound so far, very nearly at my magical 1k miles aswell so I'm pretty pleased with how well it's going for me so far.

Sorry for the lengthy update but was kind of hectic yesterday and getting time to do this is hard.

Fingers crossed for no more issues man. Seems that's this engine is a tad stronger than the others. Have fun ;)

so
I'm back!
The civic was abit of a problem child the whole weekend tbh. Engine ran faultless so I should be very happy about that, it's on roughly 1700miles now and no sign of a pressure loss.
The tune is off and I think I'm over heating it abit as it drops the AFRs down to basically flat 10s on track(abit too rich really)
Was alittle disappointed with the straight line pace tbh, wasn't much in top speed from my buddies dc2 which I found strange, the engine Defo pulls hard on the street though!

Issues:
1. So you know about the above boost pipe/tyre shredding issue(strange)
2. I had melted the wastegate gasket on a lap so had next to no boost as its all leaking away before the turbo
3. Cv joint boots are leaking like mad(cannot stop it even with jubilee clips!
4. A bolt onto the gearbox had come loose and that was putting gear oil all down the underside of the car, eventually hitting the exhaust and burning off, I look back in the rear view at like 140mph and see LOTS of smoke behind me! Had me worried for a while but it seemed to fade if I didn't Rev so high so short shifted the rest of the lap. Must have looked epic being overtaken by an old civic smoking like a train at 140odd lol
5. (Yes the issues keep coming) cracked both front brake discs, not alittle bit either! I'll picture later.
Had to find a local business called "special brakes.de" and after a chat he says I was running too weak a rear pad and that's overloading the front and cracking the disc. Nearly €500 later I'm leaving with a new set of EBC high carbon front discs and a set of HAWK dtc-60 rear pads.
Had made a massive difference to braking distance tbf but I can lock the rear very easily now and my last lap of the trip was chirping the rears into most corners(wasn't even a hard lap)
6. Somehow the nut that holds the track rod end on the hub had come very loose(2/3 more turns and the nut would have fallen off)
So that made the handling alittle "iffy"
7. I think the alignment tech didn't do up the camber arm adjustment bolts tight enough as they'd come loose and that was able to just move about under load which also gave some pretty interesting handling characteristics! Obvs as the camber changes the toe changes massively too.

A combo of 6 and 7 VERY nearly put me into a wall at id guess a good 70-80mph. Managed to just miss the wall but we banged the curb hard and had alittle launch off of that, very lucky to have managed to slow the car down for the next corner aswell.

So yeah plenty of issues and we where working on the car late most nights to get it back out the next day. All these issues plus the massively effected confidence from the alignment playing up meant that my 3rd lap on the Saturday morning(generally not your fastest lap) was my fastest lap of 8:20.
Alittle disappointed tbh as I know I've got more and obvs so has the car when it works.
Plenty of bits I need to do for next year so I can go back and go faster.

Sorry for the massive update but I've had plenty going on this weekend, going back tonight to collect my brothers ep3(span a bearing coming out the last corner of the track)

Saw you today mate. I was in my e46 m3. My friends where in a ring taxi you overtook and the driver was like wtf is in that honda!

White m5? I remember coming around him actually lol

The plan for the civic over the winter is to rebush and powdercoat all the arms and subframe, clean all the surface rust off the bottom(not that much) and reseal all of that.
Stiffer suspension as I've started to bottom out on the 225s now.
Hopefully get a cage in aswell at some point and a retune to see what we can pull out of the current setup.

very impressed with the traction from the 225s, after a long nights work Saturday I let the previous owner(friend that comes with us to the ring) drive the car on full boost while I was in the passenger seat(think he misses the ek9 a fair bit) so that he could see what the cars like now(aswell as a thank you for working with me to get the car done) he hit 3rd hard and it stuck easy, no torque steer or anything so I told him to give 2nd a go but to be prepared for it to lose traction.
2nd gear from a good 4.5-5k full throttle and it just gripped and pulled, never felt it like that before! Was surprised ESP as I'm using a 4.7 s80 so 2nd is as short as a Honda box gets and we put 350hp through it lol
So yeah, happy about that!

Plenty of issues but all easy enough fixed at least and the engine being the big one seems all good

With you looking boost with the leaking gasket the car will run really rich on you and would have probably been puffing black smoke which would have confirmed this

With the loose track rod end nut.. did you not have the split pin installed?

Rebush.. a full cage and everything torqued up and aligned properly will make a huge difference to the handling of the car
