Jesse888's ek9 build thread

Will be fine. All b18's puff out smoke on track. Its on the overrun then back into throttle it puffs slightly, was a lot worse than that before I got the catch can sorted.
I've done 3 trackdays and 20mins at japfest. Prior to that I have no idea how many track days the engine had done.
Doesn't use a lot it doesn't even read on the dipstick as any missing after a full day.

Had'nt done any track days while i owned it barely even saw the road haha! Engine had 50k miles onit when i dropped it in. :nice:

So got to the ring and back in one piece.
Oil puffs have got a little worse lol will get it sorted in the near future.
Civic handled amazingly! Was able to carry soo much speed everywhere got to the point where nothing was catching or keeping up. Did 4-5 laps in the 8:30's fastest being an 8:31 with afew hold ups. Gutted I couldn't get down into 8:20's but still very pleased with myself and the car.
Had great fun, will upload videos and what not in another thread when I get a chance.

That's pretty awesome mate! Was great to hook up with you and the other lads. I can't wait to get back there. Might not make any changes to the 9 and just take it again. It's definitely capable of 8:55 stock. I just need more laps on the ring, 8 wasn't enough for a first timer.

Yeah had a great time. Couldn't get under 8:50 at first! Then it all just came together. Managed to time how much time I lost on my fastest lap due to traffic, came out at 5 sec. So could have been an 8:26 if no traffic, but that's how it is. Thinking about it now I think I could maybe knock another 5 secs off if I really pushed myself but not really worth the risk. Will get the video's and photos up tomorrow.

Iirc jake123 did an 8:54 stock. Weather wasn't great either apparently, probably like Sundays weather.

Yeah like you said is it worth pushing that extra?!

My bro just started the stop clock and put it in the glove box until the last bend, so I wasn't driving to the stop clock.

I did have a 14 stone passenger and full tank of fuel on my 9 min lap. I'm heading back in May now, probs take the EK9 leave it stock and just do more laps. I guess.

Looking forward to your video.

Was that the R26 that went off? I lost a fair bit for him and then a motorbike that came off. That would have been my best lap around 8:55. I just loved doing 6 laps within a few hours. Couldn't stay off the ring lol.

Yeah, 8.54 with just breathing mods and ad08s on.
I reckon you could break into high 8.40 stock.
I just messed up not knowing the track when I went!

I've got a video of me chasing him, he wouldn't let me through and was on his bumper for the last half the lap. Was held up by yellow flag at the start and a Megane basically stopped mid carrousel and got out my way lol still slowed me down. Also had a pink primera right on my apex through the twisty back section so had to lift there.
Will be uploading the videos today at some point.

Sounds good Jake. I guess it takes a while to learn the track, when i first started up to lap 4 i would still get lost in the last section lol. I got 9 laps in. Need at least another 9 lol.

I went with Spoon 4-2 top section header and de-cat, which probably makes very little difference. But YellowStuff pads, Eibach springs and Kumbo KU36.

What water temps were you guys hitting? I was generally 95-100, but one Sat when it was hot it did hit 110.

I've not got a water temp gauge, oil hit 118 and stays there. Matt has water temp I'm sure he'll be on here soon enough

Cool be interesing to know, Im thinking of adding Oil Cooler/Gauge, Spoon Thermostat & Fan Switch.

I got VTEC cut when I had 1/4 tank left around tight fast bends, after filling her up she was fine.

Anyone used the Password JDM Baffle for the sump?

Think were doing Donnington in Oct.

I've got tegiwa baffles in my sump. Not really any issues all weekend, had a small ignition issue that was sorted straight away, ht leads where alittle loose.

Okay so been alittle slow with the updates, been a constant battle with the car, I'll explain why later.
Some of you may know I plan to race the civic next year in the msv trackday trophy. So this means all manor of safety shiz has to go into the old girl.
But first things first I went mental with the angle grinder and the tools taking away everything it wouldn't need.

Will get some pictures but I've cut the rear boot lid skin half off and the roof support struts that run along the roof line. Also took little bits of metal here and there that'll could find as we went along. My brother has most of the pictures of the build taken on his fancy camera so I'll get them up soonish.

While the car was empty i had ago at seam welding the joins, probably not much to be gained from doing this to an ek9 but worth the time and helps me practice my welding(which sucks btw)
Ignore my scribble. Was trying to work out what could stay and what could have holes in lol never bothered with the hole saw in the end as I'll reach the max hp/ton limit in msv TT easily enough.

Also did the front but didn't get pictures yet they will come aswell.

So cage time it was! Settle for the custom cages ek4 clubman kit. Which looks alittle like this

To get the msa approval certificate on the home weld kits you have to pass a weld test inspection. So gave this to my buddy who will be welding the cage in for me, looks like this

So onto the fitting of the cage I assembled all of the bars so that my buddy could come and weld it all in. Now this took a week of sorting out small imperfections with the kit, where certain parts don't fit quite right.
so a cage began to take shape

So finally after many hours of cutting, grinding, swearing, bleeding and everything else the cage was all spot welding in ready for my buddy to let loose with the welder!

So this Saturday he came round and started to weld it in, got a fair bit of welding done to the baseplates of the cage and a few bars at the rear. This was taken as he was weldinbr the rear plates down.

Just as we got over half way through the welder packed up! Only a month old aswell, so after everything we've been through to get the cage in the car a brand new welder goes up in smoke! Warrantee will fix it but I have an mot in afew weeks time and they are t going to like a spot welded Rollcage!

While waiting about for the welder to be fixed I fitted the bucket seat and rain light, will get more pics of the seat etc but haven't got round to taking them yet.
Wasn't too sure where to put the rain light so stuck it in the centre of the bumper, this might be abit marmite but it's there purely for function.
This is how it looks

Lots more pictures to be put on this post but haven't taken them from my brothers camera yet,

Yr rain light will not last 5 mins , all of mine had failed after race , like only 2 LEDs working
Cartek all the way .
