Jesse888's ek9 build thread

Nice one mate. I'll defo be in touch, it's like a minefield all the regulations etc. didn't know about the yellow tape either! Nice one.

Bigskank - haven't bought the cut off switch just yet. Was going for the fia approved system that uses a resistor to drain the charge from the alternator?

Gav - cannot wait to get a window net!

White man - that's my little brothers ep3. The ek9 is still my only car ATM, we work together so I catch a lift with him. Will have to sort a daily soon enough though.

Nice progress :nice:

Another vote for Cartek here, also if you have a shunt there its toast!

I'll check out the cartek if/when this one dies.
Couldn't think of another place to put it really, it wouldn't sit on the roll cage and didn't have a hole saw that would cut through metal to mount it in the boot lid.
Where's yours?

Great update Jesse!

Loving how much you have cut from the tailgate I need to do the same to mine!

Surprisingly it didn't weigh to much. Was abit disappointed really. I think most of the weight will be in the glass tbh.

You do realise that for a RHD car you have welded the rear diagonal in the wrong way? as per the pic for the ad for the cage, the diagonal should terminate above the driver as in the event of a roll it will provide more roll over protection for the drivers side of the vehicle

just a heads up as this will probably come up in scrutineering..............

Oh ****! Good job you spotted that Steven!

I'll get on to custom cages and ask them. If not I've got a lot of work to do to put that right as the whole top section is welded and so are the feet!
What an idiot! Can't believe I've don't that! Paid extra attention to make sure the whole of the front was in perfectly and then I go and do this! Just hope custom cages will approve it as it is. Sent them an email so will find out.

Lucky lucky boy!!
Custom cages said that its fine how it is and they will happily approve it for certification once it's all finished.
Huge relief! Really didn't want to cut it all out and order new parts for it.
Obviously means I'm alittle less "safe" but if I ever take a passenger out on a trackday or go rallying I'll feel better knowing they are in the safest seat.

So, got it all welded in finally!
Also got a window net just because. Ends up I couldn't fit it to the drivers side properly following the rules so stuck it in the passenger side for now, can take it off easily enough.

Going to gusset the A-pillars aswell then prep the whole interior for paint!

Cool. Will probably take it down at events then. It's okay on the streets ATM.

Plumbed extinguisher in yesterday. Got a few of the stock holes in the floor pan to patch up. New battery relocated to passenger side, master switch and Then hopefully paint!
