Jesse888's ek9 build thread

this is perfect, totally built for purpose, well done mate

Okay so been alittle slow with the updates, been a constant battle with the car, I'll explain why later.
Some of you may know I plan to race the civic next year in the msv trackday trophy. So this means all manor of safety shiz has to go into the old girl.
But first things first I went mental with the angle grinder and the tools taking away everything it wouldn't need.

Will get some pictures but I've cut the rear boot lid skin half off and the roof support struts that run along the roof line. Also took little bits of metal here and there that'll could find as we went along. My brother has most of the pictures of the build taken on his fancy camera so I'll get them up soonish.

While the car was empty i had ago at seam welding the joins, probably not much to be gained from doing this to an ek9 but worth the time and helps me practice my welding(which sucks btw)
Ignore my scribble. Was trying to work out what could stay and what could have holes in lol never bothered with the hole saw in the end as I'll reach the max hp/ton limit in msv TT easily enough.

Also did the front but didn't get pictures yet they will come aswell.

So cage time it was! Settle for the custom cages ek4 clubman kit. Which looks alittle like this

To get the msa approval certificate on the home weld kits you have to pass a weld test inspection. So gave this to my buddy who will be welding the cage in for me, looks like this

So onto the fitting of the cage I assembled all of the bars so that my buddy could come and weld it all in. Now this took a week of sorting out small imperfections with the kit, where certain parts don't fit quite right.
so a cage began to take shape

So finally after many hours of cutting, grinding, swearing, bleeding and everything else the cage was all spot welding in ready for my buddy to let loose with the welder!

So this Saturday he came round and started to weld it in, got a fair bit of welding done to the baseplates of the cage and a few bars at the rear. This was taken as he was weldinbr the rear plates down.

Just as we got over half way through the welder packed up! Only a month old aswell, so after everything we've been through to get the cage in the car a brand new welder goes up in smoke! Warrantee will fix it but I have an mot in afew weeks time and they are t going to like a spot welded Rollcage!

While waiting about for the welder to be fixed I fitted the bucket seat and rain light, will get more pics of the seat etc but haven't got round to taking them yet.
Wasn't too sure where to put the rain light so stuck it in the centre of the bumper, this might be abit marmite but it's there purely for function.
This is how it looks

Lots more pictures to be put on this post but haven't taken them from my brothers camera yet,

nice work cage looks great.

Okay, lots of pictures to update you guys with.
Basically got the welder back and my welder friend came round to finish the job.
Looked alittle like this

Added some gussets to the b pillars

Drove about like that for a while(still my daily remember lol) took a Hgv class 2 course and passed the test so now qualified to drive 32ton lorries!
After the test I stripped the car back down again and prept it up for some paint. Painted the car in acid etch primer first. Which looked like this

Taken while it was wet so looks a different colour to above pics

Then onto the colour coat. Chose a cheap white rattle cans as it's only a race car not a show car or anything.

Afew runs here and there, they can't really be seen anymore

After all the paint was dry i put the interior back in.
Also fitted fire extinguisher and pull system with relocated battery and master switch. will get pics of these later. Forgot to take them lol
So this is how it looks now basically

Haven't done the doors or bootlid yet, reason being I will be cutting the doors apart to take the weight out and the bootlid may be getting a lexan window. Or a carbon one see what happens.

I need to paint my cage and interior too, such a lickout though.

Yeah it's a long and pretty boring process. Really glad I've done it now though. Makes the car lol

Well with so much regret I'll be breaking this. Crashed the car at brands late December and since then realised I've not got the cash behind me to race a car like this.
All parts available including a damaged shell with cage, or just the cage itself if someone wants it.
Will start a for sale thread but will take some time to get all parts up, so of you are interested in any parts before then please pm me.

With some hope and half a chance I'll be back in an ek9 one day. Has been by far the most fun car I've ever owned and will not be forgotten! This community is also the best I've ever been apart of and wish everyone the best of luck with their cars/lives, I'll still be on here from time to time even once my parts have sold.

gutted for you mate, hope it all works out

Sorry to hear this mate. I know the feeling. Is the damage bad? At least crashed on track on track and not on the road. Glad your ok bud. Onwards and up wards. You should make enough back to get another 9. Congratulations on your class 2. Whens the class one?

The hope is to make enough back to maybe get myself a nice road ek9 and keep it as my baby. With afew trackdays thrown in. Got class1 3rd feb. Yet to do cpc but already earning more money through my current job just moving lorries about the yard. So it's paying off already.
