Okay so been alittle slow with the updates, been a constant battle with the car, I'll explain why later.
Some of you may know I plan to race the civic next year in the msv trackday trophy. So this means all manor of safety shiz has to go into the old girl.
But first things first I went mental with the angle grinder and the tools taking away everything it wouldn't need.
Will get some pictures but I've cut the rear boot lid skin half off and the roof support struts that run along the roof line. Also took little bits of metal here and there that'll could find as we went along. My brother has most of the pictures of the build taken on his fancy camera so I'll get them up soonish.
While the car was empty i had ago at seam welding the joins, probably not much to be gained from doing this to an ek9 but worth the time and helps me practice my welding(which sucks btw)
Ignore my scribble. Was trying to work out what could stay and what could have holes in lol never bothered with the hole saw in the end as I'll reach the max hp/ton limit in msv TT easily enough.
Also did the front but didn't get pictures yet they will come aswell.
So cage time it was! Settle for the custom cages ek4 clubman kit. Which looks alittle like this
To get the msa approval certificate on the home weld kits you have to pass a weld test inspection. So gave this to my buddy who will be welding the cage in for me, looks like this
So onto the fitting of the cage I assembled all of the bars so that my buddy could come and weld it all in. Now this took a week of sorting out small imperfections with the kit, where certain parts don't fit quite right.
so a cage began to take shape
So finally after many hours of cutting, grinding, swearing, bleeding and everything else the cage was all spot welding in ready for my buddy to let loose with the welder!
So this Saturday he came round and started to weld it in, got a fair bit of welding done to the baseplates of the cage and a few bars at the rear. This was taken as he was weldinbr the rear plates down.
Just as we got over half way through the welder packed up! Only a month old aswell, so after everything we've been through to get the cage in the car a brand new welder goes up in smoke! Warrantee will fix it but I have an mot in afew weeks time and they are t going to like a spot welded Rollcage!
While waiting about for the welder to be fixed I fitted the bucket seat and rain light, will get more pics of the seat etc but haven't got round to taking them yet.
Wasn't too sure where to put the rain light so stuck it in the centre of the bumper, this might be abit marmite but it's there purely for function.
This is how it looks
Lots more pictures to be put on this post but haven't taken them from my brothers camera yet,
