K Swap Rebuild EK

So today I got a little busy with the Civic after doing the fuel filter on the daily Astra.
Carried on wire wheeling the bay down to get rid of the rust and see what needs addressing and inside the bay we are looking good, just the slam pannel and outer skin that needs work.
Taken back all the seem sealer because you know what that means, stitch welding the bay up eventually.

Enough talk, here's some pics I quickly grabbed befor I headed home, a video will be up soon.

The site ruins the picture quality, may need to get back to uploading using photobucket I think.

Did that myself a few weeks back, not a job for the faint hearted, stick at it and it will be worth it

Definitely not but if you have no time limit like myself you can take your time with it, I've got pretty far considering I've only spent around a day actually on it, the time consuming part will be the cutting and welding part.

Yea can you do those jobs yourself? Had to get a mate to weld all my bits lol

I have a friend who I'm renting the unit off to help with the stuff like that, but I might give stitch welding a go but the plating I will leave to him haha.

More wire wheeling, all though it helps keep things off my mind it is very long winded haha. I reckon the bay is over half way done from being taken back to bare metal.

I decided to remove the SRS unit, drivers obviously doesn't have an airbag anymore with me using an aftermarket steering wheel. The car will be caged and running brand new genuine Takata harnesses on both sides for safety and genuine Bride seat on the drivers, and either another genuine Bride or DC5 Recaro for the passenger so pretty safe if there ever was an accident, *touch wood* it never comes to that.

Took the front coilovers off, looking a little worse for wear, not sure if to rebuild with new components or buy the new range. Not had any issues with Meister R apart from corrosion so will definitely be looking to buy them again if the parts cost too much. They're not leaking, I sprayed some anti seize through the threads to release the collars and within a few minutes they were free, the height cup on one isn't moving yet but I'm sure with some persuasion I can get it going.

Before I left, I made a start on the sound deadening residue with the wire wheel attachment as I have been using on the bay and look how good it's came out ...

Forgot to get a before picture but it was almost identical to the passenger side which you can see here ...

Anyone actually reading this? haha
If you are let me know if you come across any K swap parts or ideally a low mileage k24 bottom end or engine and any other parts you may think I could be interested in.
:)):))

Nice job with the engine bay,why did you remove the seam sealer?and can the slam panel not be saved, or has the rust completely eaten through it?

Thanks! I will be stitch welding up all the seams on the car to make it more rigid and stronger especially with the bay that has to hold more weight and power than it was designed to. Slam pannel is pretty rusty, I looked underneath and it doesn't appear saveable and it has a lot of imperfections that require tapping and cutting so makes sense to me to get a fresh one that I can prep before it gets fitted so it never rusts in the future.

Ahhhh i see, good luck on the welding!

You planning on replacing it with a brand new panel?

I've got a friend to do the big parts but I will have a go with the stitch welding haha
Yeah, looking like Lings is the cheapest to find a new oem pannel and it's not cheap but bettter than the rusty thing I have now.

More grinding, literally.
This was before I started today, forgot to take an after picture

The drivers side turret is bare metal now.

Got 3/4 hubs off for the new owner, pain in the ass though.

Didn't notice but you can actually see the bare metal turret I mentioned above haha
So yeah that was me today, more wire wheeling and removing the front and rear hubs, just the one rear hub left to do, not looking forward to it though as you can see I have very little working space.

looking good! Any particular reason why you're going 5 stud and not keeping your existing brake setup?

Main reason was the wheel choice, all I could find was Rotas in 4x100 and I want to move away from fake wheels now. On my setup even with brand new Nissin calipers they seemed to bind even with the handbrake slackened, looked into the disc widths between the MG and Honda and the MG are thicker, not sure if that had anything to do with it but only makes sense to me. But yeah the main reason was wheel choice more than anything. Got the SSR Hasemis now just need to figure out a colour for them to suit the wheel and the car, but that can wait as you can see I have a lot to do haha.

Thanks for the comment :))

Update:

May have sourced a main piece of the puzzle, you will all see in the not so distant future.
