Knock after Engine Torque damper install

Hi Guys,

Wasn't sure where to put this as it may be suspension related.

I installed an engine torque damper last week and ever since then i get a very distinct Knock noise whenever i start moving from a stop. Only once and it's on the side of the new engine torque damper.

Im thinking, that it could be the bracket that holds the engine damper, as some of you may know this bracket goes onto a bolt that holds the camber arms to the chassis, I received a shiny new and slighly longer bolt with the engine damper, i used this and i think it may be causing the knock? Anyone have any experience with this?

Can i use the old one even if it's slightly shorter?

Would you guys recommend swapping to the old bolt even though it's shorter than the new one?

Thanks,!

Do these even work? I always thought that they were all hype.

what state are your engine mounts in?

As far as im aware, good. Never had any knock before i installed this. Just after.

Mine seems to work. The difference isn't massive but gear changes are noticeably smoother and the car seems more eager on the throttle. Just a little increased cabin vibration is the only downside.

I imagine you have some nice stiff engine mounts anyway tama :naughty: So you probably wouldn't notice anything :)

I installed one recently Neil. Think I had a similar problem first off, but I just adjusted the thread to lengthen it and create more force against any movement. Then it could physically move and knock in anyway.

Otherwise check your N/S droplink or ball joint is ok?

A Spoon version was one on the white hatchback I bought, did nothing really. but then again the motor mounts were in good shape. It looked good tho!!! lol

just wait until it rips open your strut tower...

What you mean? :O I did think about the strain on it when i installed it but assumed it would be strong enough. My mounts are in good shape too so shouldn't be straining it that much. You worried me now haha

Can't go far wrong with a new set of OEM mounts or hassport mounts.

seen spoon dampers on itr's crack open the strut tower where it bolts on. not cool. :(

Well that seals it, Going to buy some Innovative 75a mounts :) May even have to buy a B18 at the same time.

Thanks guys!

Don't blame you Neil, That without doubt would be the most effective solution to engine bracing.

I have personally recently replaced my engine mounts with new oem ones, which I then filled the bottom torque and rear mount in with tiger seal to make solid. So I am not worried about ripping any strut tower etc. As there isn't a load of movement anyway, tbh its tough to say weather the damper is doing much apart from looking nice and creating more cabin vibration.....

I think more hard driving is needed assess them :)
