Hi guys, Just wanted to know if anyone has done this modification as my battery needs replacing, so i wanted to replace it with something more beneficial.

I wanted to know whether i would be sacrificing battery power of anysort, what battery to use, where to get it (UK) and what modifications are needed for it to sit in the battery tray.

I have an ek4 (b16a2) by the way, but im sure the batteries are the same!?
Thanks! :nice:

Buddy club is a great option, but expensive (like 120 $ + shipping) if you just have the common instruments (radio, and all oem lights) but if you have subwoofer, and other stuff, a lightweight battery will not do the job.

The guarantee life of a light weight or "race battery" is from 1 to 2 years, then you have to replace it.

The battery t hat honda uses in almost all cars is very small, so you will not have any fitment issues, most light weight batteries are small.

For example the buddy club comes with us and jdm battery cables, just in case :naughty:

I'm planning on buying one soon, unless I find a better option.

Some info I found about the buddy club battery:

The Buddy Club battery is a compact, lightweight unit that is ideal for race cars and circuit enthusiasts. Weighing 16lbs, the Buddy Club battery provides a 35% or higher weight saving over stock. Its dimensions are 76mm x 180mm x 167mm. To complement the smaller battery it incls adapters for US or JDM battery cables.

a pc680 can handle a small audio system with a sub, thats why i recomended it :nice: it has 680CCA stock batter has like 450CCA.

my 2nd technical post and blinx is on the ball!!

i dont have a sub or anything like that, just a pioneer stereo and upgraded 4 speakers...

i have used a varley red top race battery in my old silvia which was fine, but this buddyclub one seems a bit crap with its 2 year life??

whats the life of the pc680??

and what do people normally use to hold it in place in the battery tray?

anyone heard of century? its the top one here in AUS.

well most batteries that size last about 2 years (or less), odessey claims 8 year life but warrentys the battery for 2 years so thats pretty good, most people i know got 1-3 years out of them. it can mount in the stock location, they sell bracketry if you want to mount it in different places...

havent heard of them, but i know braille also makes some nice lightweight batteries :nice:

which one is the lightest? :nerv:

i never held a buddyclub, but the PC680 is pretty light, about 15 lbs if i had to guess... i think they all probably weigh the same...

i bought an S2000 battery, removed the battery peg and upgraded the terminals. Higher output factory quality. im Not interested in saving a few kgs.

ill sort our somekind of image hosting, fits fine next to my catch-can. Just have to remove the plastic peg on the battery tray and upgrade the battery connectors on the loom to audio ones for the S2000 batts' larger terminals.

lighter batteries are good easy way to reduce few kg if you are replacing battery anyway but pretty useless for anything other than race/weekend car

if car is daily driver stick with normal battery

X2 agree...:nice:

lightweight batteries r brill for track orientated needs only. when replacing my one i found a perfect sized [EK does hve limited space on tray] EXIDE... same 35AMP only like stock.

the original ones are still light and compact as hell! unless you have completely stripped out your car fro track use and are literally down to your last tiny percentages of weight saving i wouldnt bother forking out for the top end light weight stuff.

Wise words, I totally agree! its just such a pitty the original 'lightweight' 12.5kg (possibly drycell?) battery is nolonger from the factory.
