Unfortunatly i hav been diagnosed with mild tinitus in my right ear. My ears are pretty sore and very sensitive to loud noises now!! :( god knos what has caused it. Got an app with a specialist soon to see whats happenin, etc. Dull one like!!

Anyway enough of my sob story. is there anyway i could make my exhaust quieter but without too much restrictions to my power? Billy who made my 2.5"custom system at complete auto solutions can fit a longer silencer. Or he says get a manifold/cat. I am currently runnin a new skunk2 alpha series header....decat....2.5" custom system. It aint too too loud but enough to irritate my ears.

Has anyone got experience with sports cats or high flow cats and wld they make my exhaust quieter?

Or you think i shld just buy a fujitsubo rm01 as i kno they are quiet or i could run a dc2 mani/cat and tht wld maybe do it

Any other options you can think of?

High flow cat will make your exhaust quieter while probably not costing that much power. Read an article once about stock cat vs high flow cat vs decat. From what I can remember in numbers, the high flow cat was +4hp, the decat +1hp. They said the difference between decat and high flow was waaaaaay smaller than stock vs high flow. Unfortunately I can't find the original magazine article but I found another source:

You can indeed also fit a longer absorption muffler; these won't cost you any power but reduce sound further. Besides that you could think of fitting a butterfly valve; lots of the big brands like Porsche do it. They make the car quieter while driving easy but open up when you push the pedal to allow for more flow. They are there with manual operation and automatically operated but the last ones will cost a lot more obviously.

Lastly there is an Australian manufacturer of mufflers that have a very innovative system. Better to let a website explain: http://www.xforce.com.au/about-varex-remote-control-sports-muffler.php

RMA01a all the way mate. It's about the only reasonably quiet extaust that is straight through with no restriction in pipe size in the boxes. Oh and fit the OEM JDM cat they are not too restrictive, especially if you oper out the outlet.
Dunx

How about some earplugs:)

I've stuck a 16" straight through cherry bomb style silencer in the centre of mine. Try that?

A lot of people keep saying this.

On my car back to back switching from a high flow cat to a test pipe I can't pick up any difference in sound. I have switched back and forth a few times over the 6 months and still can't pick up one from the other pertaining to sound. I do have an Apexi WS-2 exhaust so it is possible on a much louder exhaust there would be an audible difference.

My car is almost too quiet.

quiet vs power....hummm
your going to be at a loss with the 4 banger.
I recommend going with a turbo setup. Strange but its all I got.

Yeah that might be the difference; on my HKS straight-through it did make a pretty noticable difference. Not extremely loud to very quiet, but substantial enough.

ws2 is a very quiet exhaust, the ws2 noir is also very quiet. It's a tough call, as for turbo, my car is turbo and pretty damn loud still, turbo's don't really kill that much of the noise :(

Excellent advice mate, rep added!! ;) think i will get a longer silencer pipe fitted to my mid section thn maybe try and get a loan of someones high flow cat and see how it goes and take it from there.

Yea rma01a wld be a good option but wld need to find someone willing to swap me. Plus i am reluctant to get rid of my exhaust as i love my angled back box.

How about some earplugs:)

Tried tht mate and they just pissed me off! Lol

My exhaust is pretty loud so am sure mines wld end up quieter. But every exhaust/car will be different.

Nah turbo defo aint an option for me cheers. Silly money involved!!

Yea all th turbo hondas i have heard hav been mega loud

Bought myself an FP racing jdm resonated test pipe and booked in to get a longer silencer box fitted to my mid section. Hopefully tht makes it nice and quiet while keeping a nice note for vtec! :)

Few things I have noticed while making and fitting different exhaust system.

Generally the more/bigger center resonators you have, the less raspy and high pitched the exhaust will be, also reduces the anoying strangled duck noise on overrun that most center unresonated systems do. Fitting the resonators closer to the manifold also helps. As more resonators are better than bigger for both flow and silencing.

The general total Exhaust sound volume will be reduced by better front/mid resonators but they more effect the pitch than volume. This effects the Volume at higher Revs as the pitch gets naturally higher if you have insufficient center resonating.

Unfortunately the biggest, main volume and base controller of the tone at normal driving and cruising is the back box. As you can see when you look at a RM01A they have a big back box that is not directly straight through either, goes in at the top of the box one end and comes out the bottom at the other.

Excellent information Keiran! Rep added. Will speak with my exhaust fabricator and see if he can modify my backbox like th RM01A.

Mine is 92db static at 4.5k rpm.
70db on idle.
I got a cheap straight through silencer from eBay. Plenty on there.
I have quite a long back box as well. Which is repackable but still straight through.

Will hav a butchers on ebay thanks

Let us know how it works out for you!

Will do mate thanks

I've a fujitsubo legalis R and it's quiet as stock pretty much and that's with a tegiwa header and decat. Good gains too

yea I hav just bit the bullet and bought a brand new RM01A as I seen one on ebay for a great price from a buyer down south. Fujitsubo exhausts are great quality!

My custom 2.5" system with angled back box will be up for sale soon!
