Mods to enforce the search tool?

The way I put it, was a minimum post count to be able to post in the technical category...no minimum count for the rest of the forum :)

That is where mods come in. Most will understand the message, the ones that don't will find their topics locked.

Anything on this subject? Or will it just stay the way it is?

Well i still think its just the nature of forums in general, its not fair to restrict new users to posting in technical areas, a new user does not mean they are new to cars. For example i just bought a Subaru, i joined a few Subaru forums, but even with zero post count i still have a vast amount of automotive knowledge and Subaru knowledge, if those forums did not allow me to post in technical discussions just because of post count i would leave and i fear people here will do the same, its like being prejudice.

The problem is the people that are new to forums in general, but after a while they will become acquainted with proper forum etiquette and learn what is and is not acceptable, they will learn how to search properly and eventually become a contributing member. There is no way to speed up this process, everybody learns at a different pace, simply limiting all new users wont help imo.

I don't mean to shoot down every idea but i have been using forums for a long long time, i have been on many different forums mostly car forums some tech forums, some audio forums etc and they all have the same similar issue with noobs, some more than others, the only difference i have seen is the ones that have less problems is because the users are more patient with the noobs and explain to them when they mess up or post a stupid thread instead of ignoring them or giving false information.

In the end rvm is the father of ek9.org, send him a pm with a link to this thread, he as always has the final say so as this is his creation, his vision.

You could of course let people post in existing tech topics and allow them to post a topic after 10 posts eg. But I just wanted to know what was gonna happen with this.

By the way, I'm on a forum and have seen a lot of people with knowledge and that "made" the forum go away because of a big amount of lazy searchable n00b topics. So while it might not be a problem now, I think it's something that needs to be monitored.

I agree. Really wouldn't wanna see this place go that way..

You guys don't like the search from the forum home? :(

all i'm saying is that we were all noobs once. we should welcome new users with open arms.

just have good sticky's & faq sections!

one of the things that most appealed to me when i first joined this forum was the amount of replies i got, as opposed to just being ask to USE THE SEARCH

plus the search isn't that good anyway (sorry mods)

I agree, the regular search sucks but the Google search on the homepage works great!
