My 1968 Honda S800 Re-build

:please::please::please::please::nerv::nerv:

The engine has not been started for near on 30 years! So checked oil - looks new, checked bores - looks kike they were oiled for long term storage, new battery, checked for spark - lovely big spark, quick clean out of carb. float chambers and jets. Intravenous fresh fuel supply then the moment has come........:nerv: (the resonating rattle is just the carb. heat shield).

This is amazing :nice:

I have a soft spot for really old Honda's, can't wait to see the finished project. :)

Soda blasting is ok, would imagine the paint on that car is pre 2k and so won't be as hard (though it had a respray so could have been 2k) but I've heard that walnut shells are the best media to use for blasting car bodywork. I would also ask the place to coat it in 2K epoxy primer as it's waterproof and you can use filler after applying it intead of on baremetal, it's what all top end restorers will use.

If you are going mental on it you could get it acid-dipped and then e-coated, the e-coating will get to all the box sections etc. so it won't matter if it removes seam sealant.

I like the idea of the 2k epoxy primer but is it ok to put water based paint ontop? Thats what the body shop uses that i go to?

as i said you wouldn't want to do the acid dip without getting the e-coating done as this forms a protective skin over the freshly treated metal to stop it corroding. you'd still want to ram it full of good quality cavity wax afterwards but this way the rust is completely gone and shouldn't resurface unless the e-coat and whatever gets put on top of it is perforated/ scratched.

as far as cavity waxes go the usual is the Bilt hamber range. i've used the dynax s50 spray cans and can honestly say that its much better than waxoyl both in it's coverage and the applicator actually works as opposed to the nail in the end heap of junk that waxoyl sell.

The bodyshop will use a water-based base-coat which provides the colour followed by a 2k clearcoat which prevents damage to the paint from the elements. 2k epoxy will be fine under that, it's very unreactive and is usually used as a wet-on-wet sealer before paint to prevent unwanted reactions with anything lurking underneath.

Subscribed to this!!

Thats cool, love seen a nice old schooler been restored.
What would be top speed out of one these?

Im doing my best mate

Waiting to hear back from Japan

A really nice project , engine is a little screamer in these :nice:

Just checked , the bonnet seems to be unavailable/discontinued from Japan.

If this helps guys i think the original part number is 63100-516-000.

Aparanty the owners club has this statement from Honda:-

Spares for the S800 are still manufactured by Honda in Japan and can be ordered provided you have the part number.
What other manufacturer gives factory support to owners after over 40 years?!.
Some Honda main dealers do have the ability identify the right part and number and place an order.

However, the ordering of parts is not quite as simple as it seems as a number of parts have been superceded or in some cases renumbered!

Now stick a K20 in there!

No S2000 engine on throttle bodies

So i comliled a list of parts i need for the 800 and sent to the one and only specialist here in the UK.....
