Yes just picking out the imperfections. As there was so many defects its hard to pick them out untill you get a solid uniform colour.
It will prob end up having two top coats as well :0

Hi Dunx,

Really loving this thread. Have actually just bought a S800 MKI Coupe, which I took out for the first time at the weekend. Is in slightly better nick that yours, but you're catching up pretty quickly.

Just wondering about your chroming and whether or not to go for it as my door handles and a few bits of trim are pretty worn so was considering refreshing them. What kind of price are you talking?

Keep up the good work anyway,

Bromwich

You know the roof trim and glass trims are stainless.
My chrome work is being restored by a company called Silver Bronze at great expence.
Door handles can cost between £40 and £200 depending how bad they are and how perfect you want them.
Where are you based?

Where are you based?

Am in SW London. Could I get their details?

At the moment I'm just trying to list all the small things I can fix before I try anything too taxing. (This is my first classic car, but I think it's a good choice!)

Have you had to source all of the window trims and weather strips from new or are you sticking with the originals? It seems my windscreen weather strip is on it's way out plus I'm missing a couple of stainless caps for the surround.

What filler are you using?

I am using U-Pol for the first layer, then i think its call Top Light Gold??? for the fine stuff.

They are about the best in the business but my bits are costing about £1000  just for chrome work!

ORIGINALS lol with only about 68 in the UK parts is a big prob. Some odd bits are available from Sherwood Garage in Birmingham and i have imported some new parts from HONDA s600 s800.com I can help you for the parts… in Japan.
What do you mean by window trim and weather strip? I have a new windscreen rubber ready to go in.

I got new carpet set and seat covers from the guy on eBay.

Dunx

Thanks. I may give them a call.

Sherwood has come up a few times so ill give them a call and funnily enough someone put me onto that Honda S600 S800 site on Sunday so thanks for confirming them.

I did mean the windscreen rubber when I said weather strip (just quoting off a schematic). Was your new one from Sherwood or Japan then?

Thanks

I actually remembered to take my camera to work today so got a few snap's for you all to see.
Took a series of pics of A pillar repair to show how much time i have spent on every tiny bit of rust.

Trust me it looks worse than it is.

Had to cut top of wing off to get it to fit the door.
IMG_5706.sized.jpg

Spent 4 1/2 hrs replacing the top back 8" edge of the inner part of the wing. Red Oxide rust treatment painted on.

3 Small rust pin holes in bottom of A pillar

Carefully cut out small section of rust

Rust treatment is Zink weld through primer.

Seam weld patch on, no overlapping here.

Sand back weld. For example this tiny bit took about 2 1/2 hrs!

Really good job,I like the time and effort that you are going true to get this mint throughout, keep up the good work..:nice:

You dont fancy adding a bonnet and boot lid to your pile do you?

Seriously impressed with your work. I think I'll just sit back and learn.

Dunk, what sort of discs are you using to dress the welds - grinding discs or the flap-discs?

Everytime I dress a small area with lots of weld I always find I get the metal too thin by the time I'm happy with the finish.

Have you got a decent bonnet available?

I'll buy it, please, please.

Sorry, I now see how you read it, sadly it's the one attached to my S800 and not a spare.

What I actually meant was that they're both showing signs of rust, and it seems you could make a good job of it.

Have you posted on the S800 club forum? I know it's not the quickest moving one, but I imagine with the amount of enthusiasts there must be a lot of spare between them.

For the last month or two i have been purchasing quite a few new and second hand replacement parts.
Got hold of these two brand new head lamp sealed beam retaining rings and two new head lamp fixing rubbers.

Excellent project you got yourself there, ive never seen the coupe version of the s800, looks kinda like a squashed E-Type Jag haha. Looking forward to seeing how the finished car turns out, keeping an eye on this thread now!
