my new ek9 ;) what you think?

Danny doesn't like this so has gone back to his TDI golf,
Strange kid.

Looks clean, not a fan of them steering wheels in clean eks, kinda need a cage or harness to make it fit in, I do like them gauges and carbon cluster surround.

Whats the plans with it?

The clunking is the gearbox id say the last guy thought he'd buy gear oil and the motor factors gave him 75/90 or even 80/90 its a lot thicker than the honda MTF it make gears hard to select when cold its "sticks" to the stncros causing them to grind as well, but the clunking your hearing is the helical or even uprated diff that would be skipping or hopping.
For the sake of £25 change the box oil for the honda MTF. it would rule it out. only reason i say this is because i had to change a 20v AE111 during the week and it was doing the exact same.

if it's the car i'm thinking of it has a plated diff fitted, hence the clunking! You know what modifications the car has?

this is rubbish

i ran 75w90 motul 300v LS in my EK9 as it was required due to the spoon plated LSD, there was never a single issue with selecting gear, i ran it through scottish winters like this too with my spa oil gauge showing the engine oil in negative figures on start up (also ran it at the other end of the scale covering ALOT of track mileage again with no issues)

grinding synchros is due to wear, simple, a decent oil will purely mask the problem. honda synchros sadly are very delicate and prone to wear, i have rebuilt numerous B series gearboxes and they have all shown a decent amount of wear regardless of mileage

helical diffs will also not make any clunking, a light hum if anything! the noise on a plated diff is purely down to the clutch plates rattling about when there is insufficient torque applied

It has a plated diff yes.
As said above Danny doesn't drive it and isn't keen on it.
He's back on his golf, he lives about 2mile from me :)

:bow::bow:

Ive had the problem as ive said, the fact your said moutul id belive your kind words, thats TOP class stuff. im talking cheap oils that ive had first hand **** experience with (syncros :angry2:)
I told him what his problem was and i made a sugestion, never said a the helical diff clunked I thought i said it skipped? (im not that great with words tbh) but hardly rubbish now was it??

Thought it might have a uprated diff alri never driven one, what are they like compared to the oem LSD?

plated diffs are superb, nasty on low speed manoeuvres but they transform the car

i had power steering removed and you could feel the wheels track the road alot better with the plate diff, also as soon as you applied power the pull of the car through corners was unreal

had a spoon diff in both my B series and K series setup, a must for any track car, makes the oem diff feel like an open diff in comparison
