NeilVtec EK9 Build up

WOW.
this is a great project man well done top marks lol.
i started reading this at 1 o'clock with a bacon sandwhich and its now 2:20 lol read every comment strangely...

one thing that is puzzling me though is it an EK9 with a b16a2 with b16b parts???
what are the meizter coilers like compared to the teins
i had the monoflex coilies on my starlet EP82 but got feels coilies now on my EG6 they're great but someone has offered me alot of money for them and i was thinking of going for the meaiter ones.

Damm you do builds to a good standard like one chap said its like discs and pads and lines nearly every other page lol.
thanks for the read mate

Thanks for reading it Glad you enjoyed it :nice: !!!!

Pretty much ready for the ring now Ian!!! Just need some new tyres (or i will by then!) and my Geo all setting up after the shell swap, other than that just a couple of other little mods before we go, not sure what yet!!

as for the engine, its a b16a2 with Skunk2 inlet Manifold, Hondata Gasket, AEM Fuel Rail, FPR & FPG, B16B Injectors & Throttle body :), Still pulls great in the new shell with the new bits compared to when it was in the EK4 but will B18c in the future, will be messing around with gearbox before a new engine tho, (unless this one dies.... its on 131k! )

The MiesterR ZetaS were better than Tein susperstreets, and the ZetaR's will just be better again! , yet to try them fully set up as i don't want them mega stiff until its not my daily anymore (soon!) The Apexi's were very stiff and although very good, a bit too stiff for everyday on the kinda roads i have to drive on, i'll Ordering some stiffer springs after Christmas so they are a nearer to the Apexi's but with dampening adjustment :)

Cant wait to get it on track next year, Hopefully with some of you fellow ek9.org-ers

at long last.........Here are the updates!

Firstly, A new steering wheel and snap off boss were needed as my other snap off / wheel were not the best!

Bought myself a MOMO 300mm (or 280 :S ) steering wheel, it was a bit shiny so with the help of a very fine wire brush i got it back upto new condition,

then paired up with the new snap off boss i bolted it on!

And then the important update, I wasn't intending on doing this until i built a custom gearbox, but it came for a price i couldn't resist!

SO, After being offered a B18C6 with an S80 box for a bargain price, i started getting other parts i needed!

The shopping list :

New Water Pump
New oil for engine & Gearbox
New Filters
New Cambelt & tensioner
Spoon ECU with 5100 Vtec and 9000 Redline
Innovative Engine mounts with 75a Bushes
FEEL's 4-2-1 Manifold
Cusco Rear Lower Brace (powder coated yellow as it was a bit shabby!)
Short shifter / extension, Badly engineered so needed some grinding to fit in the shift linkage
EK9 Gearknob
Sump Baffles
TODA Flywheel, thin as a pringle!
Stage 3 Clutch
Sytec Fuel Pressure Guage
Magnetic Sump Plugs for engine / G-box

Then after picking up the manifold we went off upto Scooby Projects in ledbury (where si vti works) with his fine self, and started work!
After some issues along the way and some serious lack of sleep / food it was in, started first time, then went for a late night drive :D

Once again, Massive thanks to Si Vti, Helping a brother out in this build once again!

All to do now is swap an O-ring on an injector as one was leaking the morning after! Sealed up for now, but new one is a must!

ill let the pics say the rest:

Then, after a small amount of debating, Out came the Powered Steering

And shes good to go, Fired up first time :D :

And now its back in the garage all clean again, waiting for a sunny day!

I have to say, it pulls better than i expected, cant wait to get it out on track
and just generally out for drives when the weathers nice!

Now to start carry on with my original plan, so its ready to build over next winter.

Thanks to everyone who i got parts off, & who helped with general info! :nice:

after u change the cluster, is there a way to make the new cluster same as the old cluster? or will you just have to stick with it? am thinking of getting a EK9 cluste. thanks

Nice update man,
And you finally got the B18... and a FEELS manifold....
did this come from a blue EG6 by any chance.
love feels stuff.....
car looks quality now knowing its got something special under the hood makes it more special.

Lance: I assume you mean after adding the speed converter can you change it back? And yes you can :)

Cheers topher, yeah i got it off Nick, top guy and love the manifold!!!, Its good to know its finally got the engine it deserves instead of a b16a2, even tho i loved that b16a2!

Much Faster now, However...... i see what people were saying about the S80...... 3-4th is far to bigger gap. Time to start collecting gearbox parts ready to build a new one over next winter! :)

did you do the convesion yourself or did someone do it for you ?

looks really good!

Me and my mate si did it. Took us from 7:30pm-2am Friday And then 9am - 12midnight on saturday,

we had alot of issues along the way with other parts as it wasn't only the engine we swapped :)

awesome neil congrats on getting the engine in that was some shift u put in it took me 3 days to get mine in due to complications :( however the feeling of accomplishment when it first fires :) car looks spot on :)

Cheers Buddy! It helps that si is such an efficient & experienced worker :p

Aswell as the engine swap we did Power steering Delete, New Shifter, New Clutch, Cambelt, Water Pump, Swapped Side mounts as i had B16 Billet mounts not B18, (better ground clearance tho by a cm or so!) had to swap all inlet mani's over etc aswell & weld baffles into sump.

So yours is in then :p ???? :D

sounds like u and si were very very busy mate haha must be shattered lol yeh its all in mate check my build got a few updates from today :) im hoping to have whole shell built up and test driven 2morow night with any luck ;)

Well done with the swap mate, very good upgrade from the b16a and I'm sure you will love the extra power on the track now:woot:

The shell really did need a Type-R motor to match

Heres a small update!!

After a few issues recently with the rear brakes sticking i took em off and got them re-conditioned so they are good as new again !!

Then the next day I took a trip to Powerstation to get the geometry sorted out & Corner weighting done.
Top bunch of guys, Spent at least an hour just chatting and then they sorted it out a treat, I'm really happy with the results feels very balanced as you would expect!

I also had a chat to suspension man, who may be hooking up some sets for EK9's so will keep you posted as and when i hear anything!

Had some beast cars there, Including the BMW you can see that was mental, A race spec vw beetle / Nur spec R34 with a RB28 ;) among many other awesome cars!

My Car weighed in at 1106kg with me sat in and 3/4 tank of fuel!, Considering its got NOTHING in it that seems a bit heavy? need to take a trip to a weigh bridge.

Got a couple of pics afterwards aswell, Only a couple!
