NEW CIVIC TYPE R

Yeah I prefer n/a but you just can't get the power I want staying n/a. Esp for the same price as turbo...

Forced is the Future. Thats pretty much a no brainer in todays economy.

I am loving the new car so far. Funny you don't get many complaining they didn't do the FD2 in a 2 door. (if you are about to say FN2, slap yourself its a different car completely.) I am all for the 4 door. They have done it in a way to almost blend the rear doors in. What is so bad about it being more practical? they have opened it up to a much wider market. I am a bit skeptical of a few things about the new one though. Yea 7k limit may be enough but really would have thought it capable of a bit more. Possibility of expected tuning of future perhaps? Similar to how the GT86 was built with aftermarket Tuning intention, but honda have just done it a bit more behind the scenes. Still not a fan of all the massive wheels all new cars seem to be coming out on though. Dont quite understand it myself, suppose not as bad as the new astra that rolls out the factory on 20"s?!?! Is it really needed.

As for the Ring lap that only looks like good things to me. Bla Bla has a cage, no A/C and no Audio who cares, difference would be minimal. Also if you notice the lap was last May during tyre testing. They have had almost 10 months to carry on progressing the car since. Seems fairly clear Honda are confident enough that the car is capable, maybe even more so as a finished and more fine tuned product. The whole Prototype Pre Production lap video just seems like another publicity stunt to me, hey look we beat the record ages ago in testing LOL. Knowing full well people would get snooty about not being Production version also with cage etc. Can only mean they have full confidence they can better it if not they already have. Even that lap looks like a breeze for the driver and car in comparison to the Renault and Seat laps that are on edge.

Also weight is inevitable in all modern cars with all the extra safety regs, sound regs, emitions etc. I don't mind it at all just means manufactures are forced to over engineer Production cars to overcome the weight thus making it an even better car once the likes of us track nuts get a hold of it and chuck out all the lardy soundproofing, airbags and extra junk they needed for road regs. Plus from what it seems they have steered towards making the car fairly quiet or so it seems. Probably just trying to shrug the age old boy racer bean can megaphone badge that everyone in the world seems to think of when you say civic. I highly doubt the car will sound crap in reality and doubt even more that it would be much of a task to make it sound like many other snarling 2.0L turbos out there. It is a 300+hp Turbo 2.0L after all, likely yet another play into the hands of the aftermarket/Mugen options. One of the most common decisions on Vtecs has always been sacrificing a more track/road friendly exhaust than that of the generic systems that make ridiculous amounts of noise anyway.

Agree with you on two counts, not sure they are better to drive though.
Maybe if your just on the road and want abit of quick speed out of a corner or something, but N/A is usually a much more involved drive IMO.
Like you say, can't be a hot hatch without forced induction.
Even the super/hyper cara are on the forced induction to remain competitive.
Power crazy world we live in!

Sorry, I should've clarified, better to drive at lower RPM i.e. don't need to rag the arse out of it to go anywhere haha.

'/

More efficient yea if your turbo is always off but also honda without VTEC turned on is efficient
More powerful that one you got right
Better to drive you got a be kidding, no way

Why i hate it its because with N/A i can pedal to the medal in corner and in turbo i just brake before corner than blast off on exit
who care for power "What is a car without handling"
Garage works EG6 run Tsukuba last year in 57 sec range with 230/240hp N/A engine

N/A rule

Adding a turbo makes a car more efficient, it's basic thermodynamics. The efficiency is equal to the useful work out over the total work in, by adding more air via a turbo you're getting more work out. Also with the turbo choices on most modern cars, they're at full spool (and therefore full torque output) so early on in the rev range that they're very rarely off boost.

As said above, I should've clarified that I meant better to drive at low RPM.

Nice for you and your casual city drive but i use honda for rally and hill climbs with lot of corners and i dont care if i will scare the bears in woods
TypeR was before racing car for the street now no difference between all those megans, golfs, seats etc...

That goes back to my original point of making the car so that its more appealing to a wider market... They're a business looking to sell cars, not please the minority.

Anyway I've said my points, I'm out :nice:

This chat reminds me of when EK vti owners tried to convince us al their modified B16 was quicker than a factory EP3 along the dually in 2005.

Cant believe the amount of bad chat that is getting thrown around about the car. Watching the video of it around the 'ring shoes plenty driver 'involvement' and full bore heavy duty driving. Looks like an absolute hoot to drive. Involved but a lot more controlled than its rivals.

Because Honda have done N/A VTEC for 30 years is testament that at the time it was the right engine, well engineered and the right choice.

Times are changing, laws and rules are changing, to get with the challengers in today's climate the turbo engine was needed and they had no choice really. The fan boys won't be happy about them changing the N/A to turbo, then they'll drive one and realise it's an excellent car.

I stand to be corrected when I go and buy one and in 6 months time say it's rubbish hahaha.

To be honest i dont give a rats ass about the whole car as a whole..
i just interested if the engine will be swapable friendly like B & K...but in the meantime i'll stick with my 300whp all motor kswap daily drive eg that im sure will smoke that new civic even if i give him 2 car....( done with my rant )
lol lol lol
p.s.... SO is it vtec or i-vtec ?

I just noticed how ugly it is compared to concept

Many bad changes if you ask me

The rear lights are the biggest disappointment, that was the standout feature on the car aesthetically. Don't understand why they cut them.
Looks very similar to the concept otherwise.
Crazy how times more on. A civic is now faster than hondas flagship car-NSX-R.

Dear lord it must be rough riding on those rubber band like tires JESUS LORD HAVE MERCY lol..
what size are they 35, 30 ?
side view i like the front of the production and the rear of the concept

235/35... not bad. I am personally liking the production version alot. The taillights are a shame but were to be expected. I'd say it is a big shove into the right direction again.

I like the car, I however MUCH prefer the concept it looks like how a Type R should. To me I think the final version almost looks small SUV like, it looks very very top heavy almost like a HRV. I also don't like the rear of the car at all, why put big vented front arches to then stick tiny little rear arches on, the only reasoning behind this I can think off is perhaps the front wheels are slightly wider than the rear one's giving the front end more bite and allowing the rear to swing more freely ... or knowing Honda it's just for aesthetics. Certainly the ring video and time are impressive, but it's hard to judge a car based on this as usually the manufacturer tweaks the car so much compared to the road going version. Time will tell.

the concept looks like, imo more based on the FN2 rather than the new model... Im not sure on the new type-r yet. out of interest does anyone know what the chassis prefix is on the new type-r??? e.g ek9,ep3,fn2 and so on..

Not for the gtr. ..

GTRs eat tyres when pushed, so yes weight is a problem for them too.

I honestly don't get the whole "turbos are not an involved drive" they bloody are!! Whoever says otherwise is talking nonsense.

I like the look of it and it will be a weapon 295ft/lbs at 2500!! but if it's around the same price as the new RS ford what would you buy?

I like it a lot, very capable and the performance is unquestionable but I don't love it and doubt id ever want to own one

Im sorry to admit this but I think if they where the same money id buy the ford.. I think its gonna be a better car all round IMO. But that's only what I think right now, I still would need to re-search both.. this thread is the first and only time iv seen the new civic.

Only reason I say is the RS focus's hold there money and the only Honda's that do are the NSX or maybe Ek9's.
