hi there new to the forums, just a quick thanks before we get down to business, this forums been really helpful reading! im just starting to get to grips with modding cars.

ive recently purchased a 98 ek4 and its nippy alright, but it can always be faster . . . .so ive been looking at turboing it. when i bought it, it came with these various following mods( i dont know how usefull some of them are)

skunk 2 fuel rail
full stainless exhaust
japspeed manifold
apexi vafcr ( the guy i got it from had no idea what this was for, its never been wired up, anyone shed some light?)
turbo timer
boost gauge
fuel pressure regulator
skunk 2 pro series intake manifold
k&n filter

would i be right in thinking the turbo timer and boost guage( which he didnt even have plumbed in) and fuel pressure regulator have been fitted almost for show and are pretty usless on a n/a engine?

i looked at these kits on ebay. . . which im right in thinking arent even worth bothering with yes? does the same go for the cheap intercoolers for sale also?

HONDA CIVIC VTEC TURBO VTI FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER KIT on eBay (end time 26-Sep-09 12:51:35 BST)

also are these forged rods decent enough?
Eagle ESP H-Beam Rods for Honda B16, BRAND NEW! on eBay (end time 15-Sep-09 18:28:17 BST)

so basically what would i need to piece together my own kit? like a list of all the components. im wanting to aim for like 300 hp
im totally clueless about the electronic side of them still, what parts would i need in that area , or is that apexi thing that came with the car anything to do with it?

as far as i can gather a reputable turbo brand and cast manifold are a must? and that a thicker head gasket , stronger head bolts, and forged low comp pistons and forged rods are needed for anything over 260 ish hp? would anything else need to be uprated/changed on the motor?

sorry for all the questions but i just need to clear them up so i can start purchasing parts for it.

thanks in advance guys.

ya is stay awy from those turbo kits on ebay. crap. the vafc is a vtec controller with air/fuel ratio adjustment but you wont need that if your going turbo.i dont really know much bout what exactly what yous need but if 300 hp is your goal id say you wouldnt even need forged rods. pistons maybe but i think with the thicked head gasket it could be safe enough.
well youd definatley need a good standalone ecu like hondata s300, apexi fc, aem ems. you have options on that side. you will need a good set of injectors at least 440cc maybe even bigger. definately upgrade the clutch, 300 hp will shread a standard one. lol and your brake, no point going fast if you cant stop.
those eagle rod are good from what i heard. have no experience. again there lots off different one u can buy. but i sure you wouldnt need rod for 300 hp.
anyways dont take my word on it, am a beginner in this.
lol im sure you get everything you need to know from the big boys in here. theres alot of gifted people that can answer all your questions. blinx and ek9turbo will definatley sort you out

thanks for the input dude, forgot to mention , the guy before me had fitted prelude brakes to it before i purchased it, it stops on a dime at the mo. its gonna need some new pads soon anyways, but which ones wouls be suited to keep it in line with more power, any of the ones by ebc worth bothering with? bit off topic but while ive got a thread open. . . . .

thanks guys

ya ebc pads are good. i have had them before. mintex extreme i think are better and are round the same price. i know from reading thread on here that edelbrock have a good turbo kit. i have a hks waiting to go in. turbonetics is also another kit. there are some to watch out for aswell. drag i think is one of them. not too sure about the other but if its ebay $dollar kits, stay well away.
you have some stuff that will work well when u go turbo. you can use everything except the japspeed mani and vafcr. well u can still use it but u wont need it. sell the 2 of em and get a few quid back. definately look into a fmic too. a good quality one.
were u from mate,
