hi lads . my car failed the nct on emissions . i am almost certain it is the cat as it was serviced just before going in an is running perfectly , not burning oil or anything and getting good mpg . dont really want to buy a second hand one as have been down this road before an not worked out for me :)what i am wondering is does anyone know any where i can get a new ek9 cat . obviously oem off honda is not an option as it is ridicously expensive. thanks for your help .

My emissions have always passed no problems and I dont even run a cat!

You sure its not a your 02 sensor?

thats impressive . that for the mot or nct ?? . no i had just replaced the o2 sensor few days before i put it back through :(

Was for mot, cant remember last time I actually done an mot with cat in.
If emissions are fine they normally let it go, all depends on tester on day I suppose.

Is the nct stricter than mot regarding emissions?

I can not say for definite but i do believe the nct to be stricter than the mot based on all the stuff i have read on here but it might not be for emissions . i cant see anyone in ireland been able to get there car through an emissions test in the nct with no cat though . the allowed level for carbon emissions on high idle (3000revs) is 0.30vol% or below. i am putting out 0.70%. more than double the allowed limit !

I have a VTi cat I purchased direct from Honda for import testing. Prob only done 500 miles and cost me nearly £700!
Let me know if your interested, make me an offer.

I don't want £700 mate, just want it gone as don't need it any more.

have a ek9 I'm in portlaoise if you want a lend for it for nct

^^^^thanks for the offer mate appreciate it but just to update this thread ... i have tried 3 different cats in it now an none of them are doing anything to bring my emissions down.so i would say its definitly not the cat .. the only engine code been throwin up was for the o2 sensor . i have replaced the o2 sensor and it has done nothing for me .
