Nicole's turbo black ek9

The car is looking spot on! Do you think you will struggle to fit those yellowspeeds under the te37?

I've not been able to fit them as the bells I've been sent are wrong so waiting for the correct ones to get to me :(
Held the rotor and caliper up to the wheel as if it was mounted to a hub though and I'm going to need spacers - I thought te37s would give good clearance and they're et39, but the spokes sit so far in from the wheel I think they'll just catch.
Need to actually fit them to get a better idea, but atm my 9 wheels look like the spokes give more clearance than the te37s! not sure what I'll do about spacers/wheels, not keen on running spacers at all but I love my wheels!

Love the look of the black te37s on it, personally I'd paint the intercooler black and it would look a sleeper then.

More material definitely helps disparate heat. slightly bigger radius give more mechanical advantage as well. I like the idea of buying brake pads at any auto store but you track your car. We don't have really any tracks in canada. I'm curious if you can buy a factory size two piece rotor for our cars.

Did consider it but stone chips make them look tatty really quickly!

You can, Project Mu make oem two piece discs, and stoptech make two piece floating discs in oem size but they're on back order - you might have better luck in Canada getting hold of them though!

I was so close to getting spoon calipers, cc40 endless pads and project mu discs from RHDjapan but tegiwa tempted me to the yellowspeeds for a lot less :) fingers crossed it was a good move..

That is where I was looking at the spoon calipers. How much do te yellow speeds weight per caliper any idea?

Are the spoon ones much wider than the yellowspeeds? As i test fitted my Rg's 16x8 against a set of spoons and the cleared with massive ease

Dont have the yellowspeeds anymore as I have Spoon twinblocks now, but from memory the yellowspeeds are bigger. doubt you'd have any trouble fitting under 16s though!

no progress as such on the car, hammered track days these last few weeks and it's still going!

went to a local show, awesome day out and I actually made an effort to clean it ha

Got spoon brakes, with nearly new RC6 pads and stoptech discs..

They were red but as people have probably realised now, I like dark things so I painted them black quickly to tidy them up, seems the paints actually holding up better than i thought so i've just left them satin black now! Fit under my 9 wheels but not my te37s unless I run a 5mm spacer!

Then with new brakes decided to head to Cadwell! Ridiculously hot day but never really it took it above 105 as my gauge starts flashing at me then ha.
Couldnt get on with the car all day, wasn't expecting to be quite such hard work as its always been my favourite track.

I also booked Croft for the day after, picked probably the two damn hottest days of the year for trackdays! but the car still survived :D temps stayed under 110. Absolutely loved it, the car felt so much more enjoyable on a more sweeping, faster circuit.

Then dropped the oil and did filter. Started hearing a knocking/rumbling noise after Croft, lack of time and me having no effort with the car, dropped it off with a local garage I trust and asked them to check everything over. gearbox was about to come off on the mount that bolts to the engine mount bracket (oops) and driveshaft was about to snap! So everything tightened up and two new driveshafts, gearbox oil and oil seals and she was all ready for another track day! So I booked Cadwell for a second try haha

So Cadwell again last thursday, absolutely LOVED it this time, had such a good day! I felt so much more confident with the car, felt like my lines were better for getting power down sooner out the corners too. Oil pressure seemed quite low through various points in the day, but it seems okay now, and I dont know wether to put it down to the heat and a temperamental gauge.

footage following Josh in his K20 coupe at the end of the day, lots of fun :)

next steps are more grip. wider wheels and tyres, aswell as changing the spring rates on the car. And a full cage next too.
I've got myself a daily ek9 project coming which has made me happier committing to ripping this apart now, as I love how it looks standard but I want to start taking the car further too. but now I can have a standard one and this one, best of both worlds! :D

Now thats a familiar sound! Love it!

Will the yellow callipers go under 15"s ok? Debating those or Spoon at the moment

ENjoyed the update Nicole.

Car looks to still be going well bar the few minor mishaps. Luckily nothing went pear shaped.

Out of interest what size tyre and also what suspension do you currently run? The tyres look chunky as hell.

Im not sure if you have one, but do you run an oil cooler and catch tank? The oil cooler may be a good investment if you are seeing the engine run too warm. Defintely get that gauge looked into too. Worst thing is to panic over nothing :p

Depends which 15! I test fitted a te37 on roughly (really roughly cus I never actually got to mount the YSR properly) and there was no way they were fitting without decent spacers, but they fit inside the wheel okay. I really liked them, seemed good quality and I love two piece discs! So much lighter, these stoptech discs are SO heavy compared!

Both pictures from both times at cadwell I'm stuck behind you :nerv:

Stuck, or just catching up in the slow K :run:;)

(definitely stuck but shhh)

Yeh it has quite a hard life really, but it does me proud :)
I have 195/50/15 r888s on 6.5j te37s and the same tyre again but re002 on the 9 wheels. The r888s are ALOT chunkier lol, personally I love it though. Will be moving to 225/45 r888s on an 8j next.

Have a 19 row mocal cooler and 4 breathers (2 in the block, 2 in the rocker) and a large catch can - my car runs pretty cool considering the turbo, the n/a cars are making the same sort of temps and other people carry on past 110, I just dont like it haha. Think my turbo being water cooled aswell as oil makes a huge difference really :)
Will probably replace my oil pressure one for another digital SPA gauge as I prefer the accuracy over the dial one.

Running slipstreams at the moment, but like you say may need spacers. What pads did you go for? Their own or can you run DS2500?

Wow you've been busy! You must either have a lot of spare time or be very efficient!
The black on black wheel combo really does look great, what 8j wheels did you go for?

What made you switch to the spoon calipers? How do they compair to the yellow speeds?

Yeh, but its the error code thats causing me issues

ECU keeps randomly clicking too :/
I have the same problem. It revs so high up to 2.5k-3k rpm during cold start with EML on. After about 5-10 minutes, I'll shut the engine and restart and the EML will go off. What fixed yours?

Just finished reading the whole. It took me almost 2 hours and it's all worth time!! Happy and proud to see a fellow Filipino do this. Congratulations! Looking forward for more updates and inspiration, Nicole. Mabuhay!!! :)
