Well after my little off at Cadwell I missed Snetterton so this was the first time out with the repaired car and new engine.
Qualifying went OK, me and Kris got a few good laps in but my tyres were going off quickly â they were brand new and hadnât been heat cycled. Put in a couple of good laps and when I hit back markers decided to come in and save the tyres. Qualified 6th on grid behind Kris in 4th and Barry â the flying Irishman in 5th.
Race 1 â Bad start - with the front row jumping the line on red, then stopping then going again caught me and a few others off guard so got a terrible start and was swiftly passed by several cars including Antony in the EP3, couple of imprezas and the GT300 MR2. After 3-4 laps manage to pass the Imprezas and saw Andy (Swift) and Kris ahead. There were a lot of backmarkers to contend with but finally caught up Kris who had been overtaken by Antony and Andy. Basically the last few laps was me on Krisâs tail and him holding the line â at one point it was door handles nearly touching into Gerrards but Kris holding the line and the cars pretty evenly matched top end wise, I didnât have a chance. More backmarkers broke us up and race was over but well done for Kris for holding me off (you bugger!). Despite the 2nd place I did get the fastest lap in class at 53.285
Race 2 â better start but again the Imprezas are so quick off the line, they separated me from Kris and Barry so first 2 laps was battling to pass them. Then caught up with Kris again, and kept pushing him â a big lock up by Kris on the hairpin brought me very close and probably flat spotted Krisâs tyre but just after Gerrards I made a dive for the inside of the Esses and took Kris. He was on my tail for the rest of the lap but then eased off, taking the pressure off me for a bit. With Barry miles ahead and no one in my mirrors I eased off the car a little. But a few laps later Vaughan in the GT300 Impreza had found himself again and spent the rest of the race fighting him off. Managed to hold him off and got 1st in class â my first class win of the season and 4th overall.
As always thanks to Pete my pit crew, Richy at Performance Autoworks for geo and pit support, Ian at Clockwise motion for the engine and Kris for a cracking race.!
Bring on Brands!!
