hi guys !
how much locking % has the oem itr/ctr lsd ?
thinking upgrading to an mfactory lsd for street use i'll go for an 1way
but haven't decided if i'll go for a helical or a metal plate one
both these lsd's starts from 60% lock....

Torsen LSD's (e.g oem) do not lock; they are constantly varying torque between the left/right wheels. Maximum torque transfer to one wheel with the oem LSD is around 60%.

Our Helical LSD is 66%, or 74% with our Racepack upgrade.

oem at 60% sounds very impressive !
so why to choose an mfactory helical lsd vs an oem one since both are very close ?
i know mfactory has better construction quality and it's stronger on high hp applications vs the cast oem lsd.
i'm also thinking for a metal plate lsd but how often this type of lsd needs rebuild and how aggressive is for a street use ?

Is 60% the right way to express it? Helical/torsen diffs are normally quoted with a 'bias ratio', i.e how much more torque is delivered to the wheel with more grip. I've seen standard helicals quoted around the 2:1 marker.

I guess 60% would be 60:40 or 1.5:1? IIRC Quaife units are 2-2.5:1.

Actually, looking up the specs of the oem unit again, and it is 2.1:1, which is the same as our standard Helical and the Quaife. The main reason to purchase an aftermarket over the oem type-r is for reliability under power, otherwise, the oem type-r is perfectly fine.

Our racepack upgrade changes the bias ratio to 2.5:1

Kozy: The main reason for quoting in % is because this is what the customer is familiar/comfortable with. If we quote ratios, most customers won't have a clue what it means. It's the same with power ratings for our gears. In real terms, quoting in hp means nothing, as it's torque that the ratings should go by, but most customers are more familiar with the "industry standard" hp ratings.

Must be just me then because the ratio makes more sense! I've never quite understood the % locking figure for plate type diffs. :D

I had read that M Factory LSD (TSD) has different teeth angle than OEM b16b Helical TSD.View media item 8998
This is my engine (133hp on the tyres with OEM TSD

How much HP in the tyres expected with a M Factory equipement?
